Best 2GB mobile data deal in South Africa

Vodacom must wake up and smell the coffee! At least MTN's deal includes a device. Subsidising the 2GB with R10 will not sustain, just a matter of time before MWeb will announce a price hike!

@jes, @Staff Write, how about including links to the deals.
I can't find any deals on MTN's website for R139.

But is MWeb cheaper? at R89 as opposed to Cell-C R99 (simm only) you can walk into a cell-c store and half an hour later walk out with a simm ready to use, with MWeb you have to phone them (took me an hour to speak to someone about the deal) they said it will take 10 to 14 days for approval, Cell-c charge R114 to activate the simm/account, MWEB charges R275 for activation and courier fees, you are paying R161 more before you start, so you are saving R10 a month but have to pay R161 more up front. how is that cheaper?

Yoh! Fscked by the fine print, again!

Well spotted.

What a load

Probably best to go the MWEB store directly - there are a few of them.

if you look at it that way, no not really (unless you go to the shop). However I already have an adsl mweb account, and instead of getting a cell c data package extra as I planned I can cancel the ADSL portion and replace it with CellC. win win :)

I was expecting a bit more from the article, I mean 130 words and a small table is hardly a headline article in this situation. Perhaps include which deals offer dongles, which dongles are on offer from each company, how long the contract will run for (12 months is far more attractive for me than 24) etc. I'm not even that strung up on the word count, it's the small amount of information in the article that really disappoints.

People are hating on the higher cost of Vodacom and MTN but they're the only two I'm looking at when my current Cell C data SIM expires. Coverage and consistency are more important to me than saving a couple of bob each month. I've used my dongle all over the country extensively over the last year and often have to fall back on my prepaid MTN SIM (kept for emergencies) in order to connect properly. What worse is I'm often in large cities and towns where one would expect decent coverage but this simply isn't the case with my Cell C data SIM.

I'm not even too concerned about speed to a point. As long as I have 1 meg down and a stable upload I'm happy, but Cell C can't offer me that enough for me to justify their cheaper option over more expensive options. Sure I get 6 or 7 meg down at home, but what use is this if I have 2 meg uncapped there and no reason to plug my dongle in?

So sure MTN is R960 more expensive over a 24 month term. I get a new dongle with the contract (at what cost, R400 for a new one?) and stable, consistent connectivity in a wider range of locations which justifies the extra R560 in my mind.

Btw, this comment is 325 words, 2.5 times longer than the article. Still feel a bit disappointed.

I've never received a bill for R99 from Cell C. Every month apparently I use more than that and then I receive a bill of about R600.
This sim is only used in my Ipad. So not much downloading happening but yet my usage is always high.

Are all these deals Top-Up, or is the OOB shark waiting in the wings?
I know EmptyN has top-up option on the old 2GB @ R149pm deal

IT is very easy to burn through 2GB, especially with all the awesome content available. Do yourself a favour and download a decent app to watch your usage. I'm using one on my iphone called "Data Usage" which is a paid app.
