Best ADSL alternative

Hi respected forumites (Have to kiss a little or you seem to get flamed here pronto!! ;) )

I've had about enough of this Iburst thing and would like to know what the best current alternative is going the ADSL route. This month has been horrendous and last night when I settled in for my one night I have had to myself for so long, ready to have a marathon session of Guild Wars, there was so much lag that even the incredibly well optimised webcode of Guild Wars was not playable.

I only need 3GB per month and don't want the packages which cut you off after that - rather the ones which throttle you. I'm looking for the cheapest option but without crippling the connection - I still want to download off ftp and http, I particularly want to be able to play online games and VOIP, and P2P would be a nice-to-have but not neccessity (I have given up on that dream a few months ago!! )

I would really appreciate your suggestions, thanks guys.

Reason for leaving? Not only because I was so frustrated last night that I could scream, holding on for over 10 minutes to the call center without getting to an operator (From Durban I may add), and messing up my evening and no doubt some of this coming weekend.

No, it's because I honestly have never seen such an incompetent attempt at running a company offering a service. Such a pity because not only is this black empowerment (good) and an alternative to Telkom (Also good), it is also a damned good system which clearly has the potential to work really really well. And I suppose that is why most of you are still here. Waiting for the potential to turn into a flood of bandwidth clogging your hard drives. My fear is that the only real news we are going to hear is the closing of this company if they continue along this path. And I'd prefer to get rid of my modem (Paid for) before then.

btw I hear Sentech in Durban is quite good but for ADSL questions its probably better to ask in the ADSL forums.

Axxess has a 5gb cap for R279.00 pm...best deal at this stage, and from what i've read on this forum their service is excellent although based in P.E.

LOL. :D
The really funny thing here is, I have done that.
I just didn't jog as I drove over to my mates place who had downloaded files for me over the weekend using his ISDN connection as I dared not get Capped out.

antonc, with ADSL all packages will cut your international after the cap. But you can get 10GB package for R270 (line) + R342 (ADSL - webafrica) = R612. So if you need 3GB, and you have 10GB, I guess you will never run out of GB for the month, so you will never be cut off.

By the way, now they offer 4 simulateneous connections per package, so if you have 3 friends that also want ADSL, you can get say 20GB package for something like <R480 and split it with your friends. This way you get 5GB for R120 + R270 line you end up paying R390 for 5GB per month, which is quite cheap though.

Otherwise ADSL rocks compared to iBurst! I see slimothy coming so I am out of here ... :)

lol @ swordfish

Thanks for the heads-up. This Iburst is crazy - don't know if it is just me but been having rocking speeds all weekend.

Feel like I am being played like a puppet.....
