Best ADSL, FTTH, and Mobile ISPs in South Africa

MyBroadband’s latest broadband survey shows that Cybersmart, Crystal Web, and Axxess are the best Internet service providers in South Africa.

The Q1 2017 broadband survey was completed by 2,463 South African broadband subscribers. These users were typically IT professionals and tech-savvy individuals.

voda, mtn, cell c and telkom are mobile isps.....were there not sufficient responses for them?

We consider them mobile providers (network and ISP in one), and will be ranked in a separate article.

Understood. However they are all competing in the same space so will be useful to have a comparative table after your separate article please.

I'm sorry I didn't see the survey and contribute. I had a pesky billing issue with Vox but network quality has been really good until last year (on the 50mbps fibre product) - recently slipping a bit.

I would have liked to have had the ADSL / FTTH / WISP breakdown by percentage on which the responses were based included here.

super nice to see crystal web there, afrihost seems to have lost the boat

Look how far Afrihost dropped, wonder if it had anything to do with that capped uncapped promo coming to an end.

Glad to see Crystal Web's network quality being recognised.

Yeah, wtf? Why would they win by such a margin for value for money? There is nothing on their website that indicates that they offer the best value around.

accepted, but from a consumer point of view surely they are selling the same thing?

We separated fixed broadband from mobile broadband, because most people will use a fixed service for home, and a mobile service for their smartphone. The decision on which product to buy is usually very different, with coverage playing a big role in mobile broadband.

of course as between fixed and mobile, my question is rather why are Axxess et al regarded as mobile ISPs but the MNOs themselves are not. both of these groupings compete with each other to sell mobile data to the public so i am not sure why they would not be grouped together?

Vodacom is the biggest ISP in the country - it has a mobile layer 3 / Internet access offering and more recently a fixed layer 3 / Internet access offering - so it should fit into both the fixed and mobile categories (same for all of the MNOs now and a lot of the other ISPs)

We as the customers voted, and if Cybersmart's customers are happy why may they not vote accordingly? ... For instance, Im on a "custom" package with them that you'll not find on their website and the value for money is so good on said package that I've given them 10/10 on that one. Mind you, I have no problems with their network, support or billing, so they got high scores on those as well. :whistling:
