The time has arrived...

I'm looking to upgrade my AGP system, but no PCI Express for me though $-(

What is the best AGP Card one can get at the moment? The ATI X1950 pro/xt? Any other good cards available?

Where do one get those cards because I cannot seem to find any in SA anymore

Thank you

One supplier has the 7900gs for under R1500 listed on their pricelist, and for R2000 (I think) they have a 3850 agp thats listed as coming.

The 7800GS is a complete waste of money. For 3k you may as well upgrade. Rather look around for a x1950pro 2nd hand.

That's meant to be a good PSU, a lot of the guys at systemshock.co.za have them and it got the thumbs up from Gouhan (ShockG here).

The AOpen PSU's don't have the best reputation either, they're also budget PSUs.

For the AGP card, definitely a 3850. That is if you can find one somewhere.

This is weird. Ive heard quite a lot of thing about the Isonic's, like:
"P.O.S"
"Love them!
"Bit loud"
"Great PSU!"
But no one can tell my Why they are supposedly not so good or supposedly so good...

Thank you for the feedback Guys! :D

It would've helped if the manufacturers stated the wattage distribution of the powersupply... but then again it costs less than R400 which means I wouldn't want it to even look at my PC :p
Voltages on the different rails are also important...but again the manufacturer doesn't say anything about its own PSU. I wouldn't get iSonic...but that's just me :D

Now I supposedly Don't even need to worry about my PSU...

Interestingly, Sapphire has paired the AGP port up with a 6-pin power connector that’s normally used exclusively on PCI-Express graphics cards – the reason is because, with the AGP slot only being able to deliver 50W of power, a 4-pin molex connector isn’t enough to meet the card’s 95W maximum power draw.

But the GFX Box recommends 450W minimum,
What do you guys think?

If you have money then you have no reason to get an iSonic, but if you want a good cheap PSU I haven't heard a reason why not to get the MegaPower. Has anyone actually bought them and had one fail, or read a bad review?

If Gohan and a few other guys building performance rigs have no problem with the PSU then it will be fine for me. The only negatives I have heard so far is what you are saying: "Its cheap, I won't use it." kind of thing. :p

The worst negative about it is that the manufacturer says zip about it. No wattage over the rails, no real voltage over the 12V and 5V rails. I've seen hardware just die for no reason. Hardware doesn't just die...something kills em ;) It's rare enough though...I'm a paranoid person and rather fork out more for a decent PSU... :)
