The Amlogic AML8726-MX processor in the Prestigio is one of the best choices for running XBMC.

I bought a Prestigio for my daughter about a year and a half ago. Works great, mine is a older model. I had a problem with the RAM being 512 and could only install a few games and apps before it was full. Butt he one on the link is a newer model and looks much better. I'll go with that.

when I was their age....
We used to play minesweeper on my fathers laptop if I remember correctly, did the version before 95 come with minesweeper or am I mixing up memories, pretty sure this was around about 1993.

OP you original choice seems good enough for all their needs

I think I am leaning more towards the Prestigio. I know it is not going to be super fast and smooth but the specs are better than the MSI and will be perfect for my kids needs.

If someone knows of something better please let me know as I am going to purchase them tonight.

The Prestigio has a dual core processor and a higher resolution screen for only R100 more.

I saw that tablet but apparently the WiFi is terrible. That will become a huge problem if this is true as my kids will mainly use it for Netflix and will be pointless if they need to sit in the lounge (where the router is) and watch on the tablet - unless these people are just over-exaggerating maybe?

Some food for thaught...

look at the charging mech. I recommend avoiding tablets where the charger has a similar "pin" connection as is seen on laptops or old mobile phones.
I have seem what customers children have done to those. With one the charger's pin broke off in the tablet.
Alternatively a "only mom and dad plug/unplugs the tablet" rule might be required....

But yeah, certainly buy cheap, latter when they have learnt a bit better and know to be careful, buy them more expensive units.

Good point but I am lucky in a way that they have been around technology since they were born so they already know not to stick things in different ports and already know how to plug the charger into the iPad (pre-lightning) and the iPhone 5 etc. The main concern was not getting a custom rom installed but from what I have read and seen it doesn't.

Now its a toss up between the Prestigio - R1099 and the Gobii - R1399.

Not sure if the R300 (R600 as I need two) is worth it, especially for what they going to use it for. Theres alot more I can use R600 for. What do you think?

Maybe the Gobii will go on special again for R999 before Christmas?

That would be great but then I have to take a gamble. As it stands the Prestigio takes up to 8 days to be dispatched and with christmas 19 days away it might cut it quite tight. But maybe will wait a few days or email Kalahari and ask them about that.

Well you do get "FREE vouchers to the value of R320" with the Gobii :whistling: :p
Personally I'd get the Gobii.

Yeah but they 2X ebook vouchers and 2xR100 vouchers for two different online places. Need to see whether the price justifies the specs especially seeing that the tablets not going to be used for school or anything, literally just games and movies.

Customer reviews for the Gobii shows there's a limited WIFI range of 10m.
