Best and worst banks in SA: Online banking, Apps, and ATMs

Not sure who ABSA paid to get a better rating than Standard Bank. In my experience ABSA and Nedbank fight to be the worst.

I don't have enough hands to count the amount of times a Fnb atm wasn't working.

I've never had that issue, and I think there are atleast 20 FNB ATMs in the city center

Capitec the highest? Its services are so limited though, incredibly frustrating. Going back to FNB this month

Capitec's got an app.. and their online banking portal looks like it was built in 1998. They are a fantastic bank but their online banking is a shocker. App's decent enough.

You'll find they have all the general services people want.

I've been banking with FNB since in the mid 1980's (when they were still Barclays Bank).

They have always serviced me well.

Fnb is brilliant, been with them since 2004. Was with (syphilis) Std bank before that.

Have and FNB and Capitec account. Both banks have been fantastic. I use online banking and the apps of both banks and they work well. Branches I would definitely rate Capitec much higher as they are always quick to help you. FNB is better on the Online banking side, but Capitec does everything that online banking should do and it is extremely simple to use. Capitec's Cell phone app is tiny at just 2.39MB (which is a very good thing) and is actually brilliant! FNB's app is amazing and does everything but is rather large (25.21MB) for those South African's that don't have large data bundles (or are on Cell C where the network doesn't work.)

I would recommend both banks any time to anyone. Capitec for the normal stuff that people need to do or FNB if you require Credit cards etc.

Standard bank was actually rated higher than they should be. Banked with them for over 30 years. I must be a sucker.

I have never had any issues with ABSA, I pay R89 a month and get everything I need.

Dunno why other people struggle so much.
When people see Absa, they only see red. :p
I think their online banking works very well.

The problem with ABSA is the history that sucks!
Apparently they retrenched staff by just mailing them and marching them out of the building.
ABSA only started looking at their security issue after they lost a few thousand clients.
ABSA belongs to Barclays group. It is 5% off their business but 20% of their income! By this it looks as if ABSA are being milked.
