It should be as simple as putting your account details into your new phone and then it's all there.

If it's not...then you need a better phone/OS.

Share It.

Or upload everything to Dropbox or any other cloud service.

I believe that would be what he meant by upgrading

He didn't specify.

But it's in the Android section, I'd assume he means Android to Android. Unless of course it's not, in which case we need a hybrid section for those people moving platforms :p

That's quite silly of me to assume that OP has an android phone just because he posted his question in the Android sub-forum. I heartfully apologise for assuming OP's phone.

You run the risk of glitchy apps if you just restore the state of another phone. For a long time now there has been no need to backup anything on a phone. Just jot down a note of what apps to redownload and that's all you need. Obviously connect your phone to your PC and browse around to make sure you backup any files you want to keep.

You should be set up with cloud storage and any competent app syncs its own data. Google Photos will backup all your pics with free unlimited storage, and Google Drive can backup your documents. Your music library will be waiting for you as you left it if you're using any streaming service.

I can't remember the last time I did a backup before changing phones. Apps like Titanium Backup are ancient history.

iPhone - backup old phone using iTunes. Plug new phone in & restore from backup. All apps download - no need to write a list!

Done. Passwords, email account settings - everything. Take new phone & carry on as before. Entire exercise takes 15 to 20 minutes.

Done this for 5 to 5S, 5S to 6, 6 to 6S and 6S to 7.

Best thing Apple ever did was release the "move to apple" app or whatever it's called. Copy everything from Android phone to iPhone. problem solved.

Yeah I laughed at that...so archaic.

But anyway I skip the whole iTunes thing and just do iCloud Restore.

Takes a bit longer overall as it does stuff in the background, but have access to my phone within minutes again.

But these Android folk like to "tinker" and make life hard. Rest of us don't have time for that ***.

What's wrong with fiddling with your smartphone? I love my Android smartphone. Even if it's fiddling and testing and breaking and fixing. Doesn't matter, I still like the experience it gives me and the possibilities in how I can make it look and react and so on.

Just because an Android doesn't suit your lifestyle doesn't make it 'hard' for others who are passionate about the world's most diverse mobile phone OS ;)

Android has had built-in backup and restore for years if you want to restore everything iPhone-style. That's a rubbish solution imo. Each phone I get deserves a fresh start. I don't bother reinstalling apps that weren't really used, I find a fresh aesthetic that works for the phone and sometimes a new system app is good enough to use over a previous third party solution. No sense accumulating an endless amount of garbage from the beginning of time.

Huh ? but this is the Android forum. If he wanted to know about iPhones, surely he would ask on the iPhone forum ?
