Maybe show her how to use google maps..... or whatever the equivalent is.
Set up her email. Teach her how to use the alarm. Ther might be a book app she'd be interested in.
Yeah, the equivalent is, well, Google Maps. Apple Maps is good 'tho, didn't deserve the flack it got on launch.
iBooks is a must. Remember 'tho, it uses .epub and .pdf as a format... If you're going to be managing the device for her, get calibre to convert .mobi files on your machine. There is a Kindle app but I don't like it at all. Also check out the magazines she likes for Newsstand.
Look for Facebook (or Twitter/Instagram/Pinterest/any social media she uses), her bank's app, Pages if she writes a bit (set up iCloud for her as well), DStv is handy as a viewer guide or to catch up, YouTube, maybe Wunderlist or Remindly for reminders, Day One as a diary, My Eyes Only to keep track of personal details, News24 and Flipboard for news, check out Jamie Oliver and Martha Stewart's apps for recipes, Wikipedia is handy, Shazam will seem like voodoo to her and finally, grab a game or two.
Really, take a look at the apps you use most on your phone or tablet and get her those if you think she'll use them.
