So I got an email today from the guys at Cars.co.za with a link to their best Budget Cars for 2015.

Best Budget Cars in SA:

Renault Sandero Expression R129 900

Suzuki Celerio 1.0 GL R126 900

Suzuki Swift 1.2 GL R146 400

Toyota Etios 1.5 Xs R146 500

Volkswagen Take up! R137 600

http://www.cars.co.za/motoring_news...ng_news/best-budget-cars-in-sa-in-2015/38667/

Anything else you would add over & above these 5?

I would say the Spark & maybe the GO if safety in not a high priority

I'm pretty sure the Chevrolet Spark is safer than the Etios and Celerio...

Fiat 500 should be on that list.

It's list price is much higher initially, but they're running up to R50,000 trade in assist at the moment which bring them in line with pricing above. A mate of mine recently got himself a brand new 1.2 Lounge model with all the bells and whistles (Bluetooth, panoramic sunroof etc.) as well as a 3 year/100,000km warranty for R135,000.

The Brio is also a potential candidate.

brio is one of the best small cars for the money, if you excuse the styling;

but if that bother you so much, just buy the sedan.....
or wait until the facelift comes along,

At least they don't take too many unsuspecting people for a ride. :whistling: But yes, only a moron would pay R180,000+ for a Fiat 500 (it's a nice little car, but not THAT nice).

To hell with Roux, I seriously think that you have a problem with aesthetics! :p

The booted monstrosity is worse than the hatch wrt looks - the designers should all be fired!!

My SO drives a Brio (I would've gone with a Jazz myself, but it wasn't my decision), so I've spent more than my fair share of time in one). I prefer the Hatch over the Sedan though, sedan is too ugly for words.

It's a great little A to B car, but there are a number of things I wish they had done better.

+1 the urge to vomit is uncontrollable. That car in both forms is just repugnant!

Good; very uncommon option. The Fiat guys are known to give relatively good discounts.

For ~ R135k you have a car with way more toys & charm than anything on this list.

Brio is relatively crappy imo; even it was badged a Korean or another Jap brand it would be okay but with Honda's standing & brand cachet it's a fail.

Again with this, unless there's really something seriously wrong with the Brio, i simply don't see any haters point, just makes no sense.

I just think everybody pre judging it based on a idea you have, that its simlar to something else small you've driven recently. Its quite strange this that nobody want to go out of their comfort zone, and try something different that isn't a VW or a Toyota.
I guess the old saying is true then, you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink:D

Its nothing like that in real life, its Got everything you could ever ask for, yes there a few niggles granted, but for what you pay and what you get, i think its the deal of a lifetime,
Also i do get the stying isn't everybody cup of tea, but besides that, what's so horrible about it?

I think its important it wont break down after the 5 years that most new cars survive,

Granted i knew I'm gonna get flamed here,
Well aware of that:p

But to those of you who actually want to argue and convince me otherwise, show me proof that its as bad as you think.....

Better yet if you've actually driven one or know exactly what goes wrong with them.....
