Why does everyone fall for the "buy new" bulls#@t?
I almost bought the 1.6 i20 but at the last minute stumbled across a 2nd-hand Subaru Impreza. The Subaru cost 35k less, had better security, less insurance costs, waaaaaay better engine and handles like nothing else I've driven in.

The i20 is a great little car, but unless you are buying directly on a car allowance, buying new is retarded.

(scooby ftw)

I also keep telling people to buy clean used rather (and I also picked up a used Impreza) :D

I prefer to buy new... alot more piece of mind, and you can really drive the car hard!:D

Peace of mind that you paid for...

And you can't exactly drive the car harder than a second hand car, in fact, for the first few thousand you should NOT be driving it hard.

Im a woman and it will give me peace of mind. Being there, done that where my car breaks in the middle of nowhere and with no help around for an hour. Its not fun and thats just half the experience. Not that new cars dont break down, but I think my odds are far better with a new car.

you dont have to swear.. really. not everybody has had your wonderful experience with 2nd hand cars.

Jeez guys, I picked up my Impreza for R129k with 19000km on the clock. There's amazing deals out there if you look a bit "outside the box."
 WRX?

@ the OP: new car only? Or would you consider pre-owned/demos as well?

Piece of mind is also bulls$#t reason for buying new.
You can buy maintenance plans and extended warranties for almost any car (depends on age).
Adding in the extended warranty and all the other bits 'n pieces, my AWD 2.5l car still cost about R20k less than the 1.4 i20

hehe, i know a couple :) that comment was directed at pox though.

@Pox, its not so much having to service and maintain it. its when it breaks, and just my luck in a deserted area. but whatever, you wont understand my experience and/or my motivation.

i'll see if I can go test drive the i20 this weekend. Im quite looking forward to it :) the sooner I can get this sorted, the better I'd feel.

And to add...Hyundai Paarden Island offered me an excellent cost on a trade-in.
