According to PriceCheck:
1x Hikvision Turbo HD - standalone DVR - 16 channels (<R1500)
7x Hikvision Turbo HD Camera - CCTV camera (<R400)
14x FOLKSAFE HD Passive Video Balun Transmitter (<R100)
Total= R5000

Note this assumes that you have CAT5e Cable (to run to the Cameras), a HDD (for the DVR), as well as a Power Supply (for the Cameras).

This is a better option than the China Town Kits and it can be added to as funds become available, since you have a very limited budget.

The point I am trying to stress; if you want something decent, you will have to increase your budget, lower your expectations or lower your requirements (I would suggest to start with proper DVR - enough channels for the future).

Also it helps to pick a brand and stick to it, you will have less headache down the line when expanding.

Or else go to China Town and buy the biggest system you can get for the amount of cash you have, at worst you will have rather expensive Dummy Cameras...

I would definitely 2nd the HIKVision systems. Bought my 8channel DVR system inclusive 8x camera's (720p quality fixed) and HDD (1TB) for +-R4500 @ PCLink. Good quality considering the EZViz cameras are cheap and can easily upgrade camera's when/if needed for better quality.
HikVision a bit complicated when setting up Port Forwarding and remote access but Google is your friend. Works very well IMHO.

I have this system: https://cctv-direct.co.za/collectio...ded-dvr-8-x-hd720p-camera-1tb-hd-100m-cable-1

very happy with the overall quality, nighvision, interface, and even the app functionality.

I would like to purchase a CCTV dvr kit with remote or mobile viewing by 2 users.

I would like to have outdoor cameras on my gates working 24 hours and other outdoor cameras that has motion detection.

Is my request possible? If so what am I looking at.

I have a 10meg fibre optic Wi-Fi internet connection.

I look forward in hearing from you.

A 10Mb line is great for streaming a single camera, will be a lag if you are viewing more than one. I've got a Samsung unit but they all operate the same.

For you gate you want the best camera you can afford so look at buying a separate one. Also the distance from your gate will determine the features like zoom, night vision quality, etc. But it still take 30-60 seconds to start the app and view the camera even on local WiFi which might be too late if you want something that can replace a video door phone.

Mistake people also make is to buy R2K cameras where a R500 will do the job as sometimes you want to just monitor movement and not really be able to zoom into nose hair level.

End of day you will not regret having a unit, amazing piece of mind when I'm not at home.

Definitely
I am sure the 10mb line will be perfectly fine as I was running 4 cameras off my old 2mb ADSL (albeit bit laggy and not @ 720p). Just make sure your router has port forwarding available and use a DDNS service - HIK Vision has one for free if you buy their system. Most DVR's have an option to record camera footage once movement is detected and you can program the DVR per camera. There are a couple of apps for Android and Apple for remote viewing and setting them up is quite easy.

The peace of mind from a well setup CCTV is great! You don't have to pay anyone to install as long as you can do basic DIY and follow a couple of Youtube setup videos.

Hikvision and to a lesser extent Dahua are best bang for buck systems out in the market at the moment.

Most of the "Chinese" brands on teh market are actually just rebranded Hik and Dahua cameras.

The caveat is that both brands have very poor Cyber sec on both the their DVR\NVRs and camera equipment - if you intend on putting these on any internet facing device you will be hacked at some point.

Uhm... no... the security is on point so I am not getting where you are coming from regarding security.

I personally run Hikvision and it is not re-branded because, if you use the IVM application that comes with the camera you will see that it registers the camera at Hikvision themselves in China.

The security on the camera is rather based on your network at home... not the camera itself.

I don't use an NVR, they are plugged straight into my POE switch.
