Hey guys

Looking to built a new Ryzen 5 3600 rig but considering using it for crypto mining when not gaming. Was hoping to go for a mini itx case but will have to opt for a micro atx if i want to use my old GPU. Any recommendations, only requirement is a compact case with good airflow

Options I found so far

Where are you getting your power from and with what card? Something like a 970 running permanently is R.53/day if Eskom direct home user, if you're on e.g. CoCT power, it definitely is not worth mining.

The 1060 might be on Eskom power, R26/day.

CoCT power on the other hand is:

So a 970 is around R1/day. Note that I think Nicehash only calcs the cost of the card's power usage, not the CPU, mobo, etc. and you're not taking into account the wear and tear.

So if 1060 or newer, maybe worth it, but unsure, depends on your electricity cost and whether you need the PC for other things, it might be better just to only use your new card, all depends on what you have.

If you're still going through with it, rather get the EC400: https://www.wootware.co.za/phanteks...lack-steel-atx-mid-tower-desktop-chassis.html
It includes the fans, and it's cheaper to buy a case with fans if they're good as the case manufacturers get the volume discount.

And do note again, difficulty jumps later on will probably reduce the profitability soon enough, and Eskom power is getting more expensive, so not sure if viable to pay off any extra hardware really, rather only use your strongest card (all depends on what they are).

Its a 1660 super and then want to buy a 3060 for gaming and ray tracing, will upgrade this to a 3060ti and sell the 3060 and 1660 super once the market returns to normal. Tested the mining last weekend while I was away for 3 days and the consumption was 20 units (+- R 45) and the mining revenue was (+- R 85). The fridge, geysers etc were all on so even if I break even I will in theory have free power each month atleast until the rates increase or the eth price drops / halving occurs as mentioned above.

The 3060 cards can't do mining, so you'd need to dedicate the 1660 to doing that job.
