Mica - Shelley Beach has the DSTV HD PVR on special for R2799.99 until 11 November. A good deal if you're on the South Coast.

I bit the bullet, bought mine yesterday, coupled it with extraview to my SD-PVR. The PACE and UEC decoders will be functionally exactly the same. I have top notch contacts on that within Altech. The only reason for not releasing it yet has to do with multichoice and their devs for the software, and pricing for the components. So technically its not because of UEC that it has not been released. What does concern me is that they are only going to do a limited production run on the UEC model when it is available. I wonder if they have a new Dual View HD-PVR in the making. They probably do, the skates! Just wanna get rid of current stocks of HD-PVR....

Well I'm smiling, R2999 for the decoder, R600 for the 2X6 feed splitter and now I have 6 channels (3 watch, 3 record).. sweet!

IRG, there won't be a dual view... Xtra View only. Maybe the option of linking more than 2 decoders in Xtra View later.

well as long as my latest purchase isn't superceeded within a year, I'm happy with that... Can't say I'm all that impressed with 720p. a little sharper, but not by a hell of a lot... 1080 looks really good tho - not like we ever gonna get DSTV to broadcast it, way to much bandwidth for them!

Nobody broadcasts 1080p... 1080i yes, but that is comparable too 720p. To me the 720p is more than a little sharper. Depends on the content and the screen though.

Problem is not with the 720p ... proper 720p lloks absolutely awesome and you really will not see a difference between it and 1080p unless you are closer than 2.5m from a 50"

720p as we get it from DSTv, though, is pretty crappy. They are over compressing and half the time they show ud upscaled DVD's ... there is another thread with a link to some stats site that shows how much less bandwith channel 170 use these days compared to when the HD PVR came out for the Chinese Olympics ... DSTv steals bandwidth from 170 for other new channels

Ya ... I knew something like that was up... thats why they dropped all the interactive channels... not enough bandwidth for them on the sattelite for the HD channels to come. they should drop the useless channels, everything after the music channels, who need that anyway! Just some news stuff and christian channels (yes I'm christian - but dont need a tv channel to go to church).
