Clippers as in the stuff that you cut your hair with? Doesn't that hurt?

Lol - I have one but shaving in general is just too much effort. I think I'm getting old. Either that or I'm becoming a man :D

Don't throw your normal razor away just yet.

You're still going to have to shave with it at least twice a week.
Otherwise your beard is going to start growing in all directions.
And the electric one does miss a spot here and there, so u don't want to shave more than 3 days in a row with just the electric one.

For your 1st few shaves, shave in the early evening, it won't probably won't work well the 1st few days (unless u just got bumfluff :p), so be patient...

(I don't like that circles razor either)

Yep, it is the thing that is used for hair. It doesnt hurt - you can adjust the setting easily.

Since i ditched my razor, i've been using clippers on my face.. 2002 maybe.

6 months back I switched from Mach 3 Power to the Phillips Coolskin, never looked back since. Works best in the shower, and the charge lasts me about 2 months, shaving 3x a week.

Anybody know what other gel you can use with it besides the sachets you insert? Those are a bit pricey and only lasts about 3 shaves.

Gilette shaving gel. I get it at Spar or P&P.

Ideally, u should buy some when buying the razor, or at least ask where.
But the blades will last a couple of years.

Kinda like buying buying an extra set of shoe laces when u buy new shoes.
I always do that, cause u never gonna find the right ones when u need them.

But this foams, surely? Looking for the non-foaming.

Yep, it foams, but not as much and the non-gel shaving cream.

I was told Stax could get them for me for an old Philishave, but the blades would have cost more than a new shaver.

@adelp: You should be able to get replacement heads from Philips 011-471-5000 (www.philips.co.za). Just shop around as the prices might vary considerably.

You can also apparently buy several products through the Internet which can resharpen the blades. I haven't tried them myself but they sound interesting.

Here is another resharpening idea ...
Sharpening any electric razor can be done. They all work on the same basic shearing principle.
The trick is getting an abrasive fine enough that the edges of both the stationary and moving blades are not damaged. The easiest method is to buy a tube of strop dressing. (The red stuff- not the cream coloured, which is only a leather conditioner.) Apply a little to the inside of the screen side, or inside the shells of rotary cutters. Assemble, and run for a short while (maybe 15 - 30 seconds). On screen types, make an even thin coat right across the screen.
After running the machine, disassemble, and clean thoroughly but gently in very hot soapy water using an old toothbrush if needed, rinse with boiling water and dry immediately. (Only the cutter parts get wet, not the electrics, OK?)
With rotary cutters, this is not quite the ideal method, but to achieve an even better result requires the use of specialist equipment. None the less, a noticibly better shave should be the result.

I have only recently started using one, used it 4 times now. I tried a couple of years back and it was waaaaay worse then. Cheeks and stuff are fune its just the neck that kills me.
Apparently though it takes 3 weeks to get used to it.

From my experience you can't go wrong with braun products, especially shaving products. I've got a braun series 5 and I've had it for about a year and it still works like it's brand new. I found this site http://www.squidoo.com/best-men-s-electric-shaver-razor-best-electric-shaver-for-men that gives some reviews and ideas for different brands. I think some people can get away with the cheap $20 or $30 electric razors but my facial hair is thick and my face is sensitive so I needed something that was high quality. Braun all the way.
