Then why did you raise this issue and imply that there is no thread in which complaints could be lodged?

I did not imply that, they do not have presence on this forum and I stand by that provable statement and will not discuss this further as my point has been made.

They DO have a presence on this forum, but they do not consider it an official support channel.

For what its worth I was unable to get fibre in my area. Telkom came in, installed the fibre and got me up and running within 3 weeks. My speed sits between 85-95mbs over wireless all day long.

I'm with Cool Ideas and couldn't be happier. I've had no problems with speed locally or internationally. My wife plays Runescape on UK servers and loves the stability of the connection for gaming. I have never seen any sign of shaping or throttling. It's also nice to not have to worry about the bandwidth I use.

In fact, the only thing I can fault is the supplied router, which is a TL-WR840N, the router works OK, and gives reasonable coverage, but it's not what I'd call a world class router. But it comes free and can be returned to CISP if I ever leave them (which is only likely to happen if I move into an area that has no fiber or I drop dead, I really can't imagine any other circumstance that would make me change ISP's).

Firstly, +1 for the stability to RS servers or any international game for that matter. The latency is not as low as some ISP's but it's great.

Secondly, have you tried updating the router firmware? Every week or so I'd need to restart mine so I updated its firmware (currently on 3.16.9 Build 160406 Rel.40792n) and it's been perfect ever since.

Currently gaming is blended on SAT3 and WACS so you get a combination of around 160ms and 170ms, we will probably start policy routing all gaming over WACS only soon enough to improve latency in gaming specifically.

Thanks, I'll try that, but it's not a big issue for me as I only use the router as an access point anyway.

Funnily enough, I do the same. My access point for one side of the house was old and flaky so I purchased another one from Wootware as it was under R400. I received a v3 model which I now use as my router.

My latency to London:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>ping oldschool73.runescape.com

When I was on DSL (With Vox), the lowest I would get to the London RS servers was 173ms. I'm not complaining, though. This is a lot better as I enjoy the stability versus the mess I was on before, but why would it be so much lower using Vox on (crappy) DSL?

Those are substantially better results!

I did those tests just before I posted them. It's the same now as it was yesterday evening.

I am in Durban on the Mitsol network. Would Vumatel's latency spikes affect me?

Could the fact that I am in Durban be why my international latency is that much higher than yours?

Where are you testing from, if I may ask?

Ok no so Durbs adds about 10ms latency by default, we may route KZN via our Cape Town leg for slightly improved latency in the near future. Results are from JHB.

what is the correct thread as I want to raise the poor fibre performance I have been experiencing in the evenings on a 20/20 fibre line. speedtests come out fine but buffering is sometimes to painful to listen to. couldn't even open their website first try tonight.... they say they will escalate but been like this for about 2 weeks now... anyone else experiencing issues on CW/Vumatel fibre lines?

Been having the same on CW/Vumatel in CT recently at night. It seems to be a capacity issue. Not sure if its on IS side or not, seems WA customers have mentioned similar issues and IIRC WA and CW both run on IS backbone.

I have a 50/50 line in JHB and my speedtests with CW is giving me between 24 and 30Mbps. The Vuma speedtest to the ISP handover point is over 50Mbps. I am currently working with their support to try and resolve it, but no luck yet.
