There is a mega AV thread lurking somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it.
What in your opinion is the best free Anti-Virus Currently, apart from Windows Defender builtin AV?

Please no trolls with your "don't be stupid pay for decent av" thanks but start your own thread for that nonsense, never paid for AV and never had any issues, especially not after Windows 7 was released but I like having some residual protection so free AV is perfect for my needs.

Fire away!

Avast! free.

Can couple it with malwarebytes free if you are constantly downloading dodge software.

Thanks, that's the combination I used to use.
Avast has become a bit spammy though, full of cr4p and pop-ups etc, would prefer something different less bloat and junk.

I'm not claiming it's the best, but I use Windows Defender on all my Win 10 machines. I install Malwarebytes and do a scan if I suspect something dodge has happened.

Enable gaming mode, removes all the ads.

And then remove:
Safebrowser or whatever it's called.
Avast e-mail signature.
Home security.
Cleanup > performance tool.
Don't really like secureline vpn.

For Windows 10 1607 I use windows defender and common sense since most free AV's have issues with this version of Windows currently. Everything else Bitdefender Free.

Format ... install Linux :p
Post #15 and the token install Linux post finally crops up, don't you have some putty or terminal gibberish to attend to?

I'd stick with Windows defender but I have disabled all system auto updates and windows in their eternal wisdom included defender in system updates, so now I get 2 or 3 prompts a day to install defender updates and its getting a little long in the tooth.

If you went as far as to disable Windows updates you may as well go the whole 9 yards and install linux ;)

Ok, ok, I'll stop.... :D
