Okay so my current specifications are as follows:

Intel Core i5 2500K @4.8Ghz/ASRock z68 Extreme4 Gen3/Corsair CMZ8GX3M2A1600C9 Vengeance 8GB/GeForce GTX570

I am going to be moving into res at UCT and so will be needing a fast gaming laptop for about R20K. The problem however is that I am worried that any laptop I get for that price will not be up to the standard of my current rig and I'll have to deal with games on settings less than full detail. As far as my current choices go the MSI GE70 2OE and MSI GE60 2OE from Evetech look good i'm just worried about the GTX765M graphics.

Any suggestions on the best gaming laptop for around R20k?

Be careful with those MSI laptops, because some of them may have overheating problems.

You'll going to have to spend considerable more if you want the same kind of performance as that GTX570 of yours. Like you'll need to get one with an AMD HD7970M / Nvidia GeForce GTX 775M if you want the same kind of performance: http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-7970M.72675.0.html

Lastly: why do you want to get a laptop instead? I had no issues with a desktop PC with a CRT screen when I was in a University residence...

Gtx765m is ok card.

I have upgraded my msi gt660 last night to a gtx 570m , which is listed just under gtx 765m.

Plays bf4 on high settings on 768p , laptop screen limited , did not have hdmi cable to test on a full hd screen yet. 40fps lowest i got in heavy areas.
Card is overclocked from 575mhz core to 750mhz core and memory from 1500mhz to 1800mhz, giving it quite a boost in fps, should be around gtx 765m level.

Through gtx 570m of mine has 3gb of VRAM, bf4 was only using around 1.3gb at 768p :p

Where you at UCT or Stellies? I'd really rather prefer to take my actual PC with me, the gaming laptop price premium seems completely ridiculous for the performance you're getting...

As Pada mentioned, why do you need to get a laptop? Your desktop would have a much better upgrade path and it'll be cheaper and less hassle since you already have it.

If you are intending on travelling with this, then keep in mind the weight. They're not very travel friendly (no matter how strong you are) compared to something light like a Netbook (if your purpose is just to take notes).

Haswell has increased the battery life performance, but again you would not compete with the smaller/lighter class of notebooks.

If I were you, I'd keep the desktop and just get a smaller notebook for notes (if that is your intention).

Last word of advice is to import these yourself. Yes I know it's sort of a hassle, but it's cheaper. Some notebook manufacturers allow the warranty to be transferred. Take a look at the Lenovo Y510p, Asus, Alienware range to.

If you're in to customizing then basing something off of a Clevo model could be interesting as well. These are basically bare-bone laptops whereby you choose what components go in. They're not as pretty, but they do offer flexibility in choice. In this case look at xotic-pc, sager, etc...

Good luck!

Thanks for all the advice, I think I'm gonna settle on the versatile Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro and then try to sneak in my desktop. Ill probably have to move it from the current full-tower case to a mid-tower case though...

Stay away from nvidia laptops.
I'm running a fujitsu with 16GB Ram, i7-3630QM @ 2.4GHZ, nvidia 620m and an intel 4000.
Now the nvidia is upposed to kick in when playing games, but it is a bloody mess.
e.g.
COD Modern Warfare - not running
borderlands 2 - only windowed
path of exile - only windowed

check the steam forums, it's littered with people complaining about optimus and games not wanting to run
