Just my opinion but... I would go with:

Core 2 Duo E4500 - R1,280.00
Asus P5K IP35 or Gigabyte GA-P35-DS3L or MSI P35 Neo IP35 - 1.1 - 1.4k
9600GT/HD3850 - 1.8 - 2.1k
2GB DDR2-800 - R641.00
2 x 250HDD's - R1002.00

About 8.3k (quick calculation could get for less if you shop around) :p

That's only 200 less for slower CPU, slower GFX and less Ram...

Well tat's good then. If you gonna get the E4500 you may as well just get the E2180... But I agree with the 9600GT and 2GB RAM...

R8178.

Could get it down further if we go for a cheaper case.

The Triton is about R700, could go for something around R500. Saw one CoolerMaster case for around R500, but it doesn't look too great.

Thanks guys for all the positive contributions/suggestions and thanks to PostmanPot for the speedy quotes.
Just note that the PC is not for me but for a friend of mine-I'll see him during the weekend and show him the quote.
But I must say that I'm also suddenly feel like an upgrade!
If only the budget would allow it !

You can get it for R350? Interesting. Ygpm soon.

I read somewhere that it might not be big enough for an 8800GT, because of it's length. Maybe you could have a look. Or is the 9600GT smaller?

That's what I was thinking. I'll check the dimensions of each and compare.

8800GT: 22.86 (L) x 11.115cm (H).
9600GT: 21 (L) x 10cm (H).
NSK4400: 42.164 (H) x 19.812 (D) x 41.91cm (L).

So it will fit. :)

But it might be in line with the hard drive cage, which means you can subtract about 10cm... Should still fit.

Been doing a bit of Googling, haven't found any thing about the 8800GT and NSK4000.

Do you think you could find the URL where you read about the size conflict?

Thanks.

8800GTX is 27 x 10cm, 9600GT is 21 x 10cm. I read that an 8800GT is a bit of a squeeze. Going to rather look for more gaming-friendly cases.

Well the Sonata III that I mentioned in the PM is only a bit more it seems, and will def fit a bigger card... And it will be much quieter and cooler...

Triton 180 and Sonata 3 are both around the same price.

Will wait and see if lexor's friend is wanting to spend a bit over R8000 for a decent case. Also which one he prefers. ;)

Good quotes, PostmanPot. I feel obliged to point out the need for a x64 operating system should he go for the 4GB RAM option, just in case. :)
