not aware of any BM mechanics there, but you can try Zeemax in Paarden Island, I fear it will cost quite a bit.

there are a couple of nightmare stories lately about zeemax on the bmwfanatantics forum. go read those first before you decide. they sorted out my car years ago but it appears they have taken a bit of a fall from grace.

dude is autowizards where you sent me a couple of years back?

Yesterday I spoke to my mechanic. He told me that he is not insured. He'll fix the car if it gets damaged at the workshop, but he is not insured for theft, fire etc, because the insurance is too expensive. He said none of the independent mechanics are insured.

Is this correct? What do you guys think about this?

Which workshops are properly insured?

Sounds fair as long as he is upfront about it. I already have car insurance.

Do you know how common this is among independent mechanics? How many of them are insured and how many not?

If your mechanic need insurance for stuff he's going to break ... i'd probibly avoid him ...

It's for in case of a fire, theft, etc etc. Not necessarily for stuff he's going to break.

its a valid point, although the likelihood of it happening is negligible, I did hear of an incident in Cape Town where a tuner's workshop burnt down with cars in it about two or three years ago, not sure what happened in terms of compensation

KSD, Kosie Swanepoel Developments. Insurance paid for everything. They were closed for a few weeks, obviously.

Are Golden Value Motors still recommended ? The original recommendation is a few years old now.

Listen, this entire thread is a waste of time. Per Sauron, cars hardly ever break down, so why would a list of mechanics be needed? Older cars are even less prone to mechanical failure!

VW - V Trouble U, 0835647864. Based in Lenasia, JHB. Best independent mechanic I have ever seen. Decent prices also.
