Hi

Ok so I am planning to come back to SA in a few months time and I just want to know who do you guys think will give me the best deal on dsl in SA.

I'm in Germany at the moment and this is my dsl stats
I have a 1.536 kbit/s FLATRATE SDSL connection ;)
It costs me 49Euros a month
I download an average of about 80GB p/m
and upload about 60GB p/m :D :D

I don't think that I can go back to adsl after using sdsl for 3 years
It is just that I have the same bandwidth up and down

So any recommendations will be appreciated

Thanks

hmm...are you posting this to make us cry, or for us to make you cry?

Use Sentech MyWireless Classic, and just dont download as much stuff.
If you want ADSL, Web Africa are really great

sory if I make you cry :p

All I want to know is will it be possible to get similar services in SA
and the big one is SDSL I hate ADSL it sucks

and on the amount of bandwidth i use wel I'm a unix phreak and I constantly download an OS install it play with it and trash it I have also my own email/webserver running from home and friends to connect to my file server and uploading and downloading files.

there must be at least one isp that offer SDSL FLATRATE even if I have to go down a bit on the speed i'll do it but I need about 150GB up and down a month

In all honesty, stay in Germany if you want those kind of stats.

The fastest DSL service we have in good old SA is ADSL, at 1Mbps.. :(

Telkom won't be happy about that lol.. only dynamic IP's at the moment.. :(

There are uncapped options, but they are many times more expensive than you're paying now, even without the ADSL 'line rental' :(

Go to www.hellkom.co.za and check on the left for uncapped ISP prices.. then go right to the bottom of that and see what the ADSL line rental prices are, and add another R92 to that for total price........ sorry mate, SA is backward where communications is concerned.

ok so if dsl really sucks that badly in SA what about a T1 connection

I need my GB ;)

At last mention, a 2Mbps diginet line was around R28,000 per month.......

ok so I don't think i will take that then

Thanks for the advise I seppose we will just have to wait for the competition to arrive one day

about that will there be any compitition soon or not?

That all depends on when Government decides they have sucked enough money from the South African consumer so it could take quite some time still. The SNO spokesperson has indicated that March would probably be a realistic estimate, although the process has been stumbling along since 2002 already. One lives in eternal hope though :D

There are already broadband competitors, Sentech MyWireless and WBS iBurst. They are both wireless offerings of course

wel thanks for all the info I will have to go and do some thinking before I come back to SA

Have a good night
later and good luck with the DSL
