Best lanterns

Bought two of these rechargeables at NuWorld in Menlyn today.

R249 each and quite a bit of stock

22 and 44 LED modes, packaging says it lasts around 18 hours on 22 LED mode. Can be set automatically switch on when power goes off (in whichever mode is desired).

Uses a 4.5ah 6V battery, so can easily replace when battery is old/kaput and doesn't hold a charge for long enough anymore.

The power cable (hidden in the back panel) is a bit short for my liking but otherwise happy.

I bought two packs of two lanterns for R600 each from Cape Union Mart and they've been fantastic. The box claims that they get 100 hours on the dimmer brightness setting, which is great because that's the best of the two modes. It has a USB port for charging devices too.

I have ordered that one from Takealot and two weeks after payment and a twice confirmed delivery date they informed me that they are very sorry but out of stock. It still shows as available in JHB.

They have some of these at Montana traders @ R250.

FIL gave me one of these.

Saw one here in CT the other day, but he said theyre adding like 100% margin.

Solar charger, and hand crank for charging if youre in a pinch. Also has a few other charging cables but havent had the need to use them. I think I might also be able to charge a phone via the usb port and the dynamo crank, but havent tried.

Does the solar panel constantly try to charge it? I am kinda worried about the long term battery life if its always charging.

I bought this bulb from Makro on Friday for R159 only tested once and it was working ok and brighter than LED lanterns.

iWarehouse in Somerset West has them for about R239 each. That is if stock is still available. Check their website.

Been buying these and they work well enough. R89 at builders and PnP

Whatever you buy ... go LED.

Most efficient way to get lighting.

Not sure if they sell flouro tube emergency lights still?

How much Lumen do i need for rooms apprixmately 30 sqm
You would normally start off deciding what light level you want (in lux) and then multiply lux by sqm to get the total lumens.

Most health and safety standards recommend 50 lux as the minimum level for public areas but you could probably get away with less than that in your own home.

For 50 lux in a 30 sqm room you'd need 1500 lumens.
