Best Macbook Pro Monitor available locally?

I'm looking at getting a bigger screen to connect to my macbook pro to use while at work, I've been reading a few review sites but it seems most of the monitors are only available overseas. Anyone here using something they are happy with?

Depends on what you want to use it for? If colour correctness (design, photography) is important, stick with Apple. If used for day to day non design related work, a proper PC monitor will do the trick.

First prize is definitely the 27" Thunderbolt display - they are however somewhat on the pricy side... Dell also makes quite a few decent screens that work well with the Macs

I'll be using it for 3d modeling. Colour is not such a big issue. Just needs to be nice and crisp :)

If you can't go Apple, my next bet would be the Dells.

And colour accuracy should be your top priority.

Apart from the Thunderbolt screen (work) I have a Dell 27" and a LG 27" (home) screen that I connect to my MacBook. As I said the Thunderbolt is by far the best, but at over 20K they break the bank. Both the Dell and LG offer decent experiences, albeit at lower resolutions than the MacBook - so merely for 2nd screen additional screen real estate.

It's just weird paying R15k+ for just a monitor, I might as well then just get the iMac retina 5k with 27 inch screen, which I have considered, but the performance of these is similar to a macbook pro. So I'd rather get a macbook pro + screen so I get the added portability.

In theory you can connect any HDMi screen to Mac to get more screen real estate - even the cheaper ones. Just depends on what you expect in return from the screen.

I have a Dell U2713HM and it works beautifully with my MBP at native (2560x1440 @ 60Hz) via mini-displayport to displayport no input lag, nothing.
Can only recommend them for great colour, 3 year warranty and USB 3.0 hub :)

Woudn't recommend HDMI as apparently it wouldn't max the displays resolution.

Interesting, just realised that Thunderbolt ports are perfectly compatible with mini displayport.

Go with a Dell UltraSharp if Thunderbolt Display is too expensive. I would also go iMac 5K...

LG build quality is horrible. Same with most Korean crap.

I managed to get someone to agree to buy the 5k iMac from me in 6 months when I leave, so looks like my decision has been made. Now just to wait for the latest iMacs to be available locally.
