Best male and female vocalist of all time?

Lol, you should put a challenge to the choice like "the best vocalist that didn't die from a drug overdose"

Saw a video of Celine Dion struggling with her disease and someone commented: "Lord, please take her pain away and give it to Katy Perry"

As a person of an advance age I agree with most of the great mentions on this forum - heard this new artist and jaw is on the floor - best female vocalist I have ever heard ?
Maybe, can't think of any better than this ..

So here I am watching the documentary "I am Celine" and got me thinking, vocally who would you rate os best vocalists of all time?

Me:
Freddie Mercury
Celine Dion

Honorable mentions:
Steve Perry
Whitney Houston

Edit: typed from phone, ignore spelling errors
Freddie kinda counts as both Male and Female...

Both good song writers, but it's hard to describe artists who sound like they're talking through their live performances as great vocalist. We may as well add rappers to this list if we include the likes of Dylan and Cohen.
Do you feel the same way about Gerry Rafferty?

I wouldn't put him in the greatest vocalist category either. I'm being unfair on Dylan with the rapper comparison. He's not the greatest but he can sing, I've just never taken a liking to his voice.
I've never seen a good live performance of Cohen though.

I would not either. I was more referring to his style of singing. When listening to music I like when it is like they are telling you a story.

Aaron Neville, Luther Vandross, Peter Cetera, Christopher Cross, George Michael had incredible voices and the female award to definitely goes to Mariah Carey.
