Best male and female vocalist of all time?

Another vote for Floor Jansen.

Does the best version of Phantom of the Opera by far!

On my bucket list is still go to go one of their concerts.
I am sorry to break it to you but they announced earlier this year that they will only be doing studio music and no longer touring.
so unfortunately that particular one is now up there with Nirvana, Queen, Led Zepplin and The doors because it wont happen.

Edith Piaf
Aretha Franklin

George Michael
Freddie Mercury

Antonio Reyes (buleria/flamenco)
never been too keen on george micheal - i think his persona (for me), detracted from his vocal ability.
dont knoe the name antonio reyes - going to find out now tho . .

yea
antonio reyes has quite a vocal range.

which got me thinking - grace jones - also incredible range with a massively powerful voice
take a a listen to her vocal range and power here:
***good earphones / headphones are really really recommend for this

interesting to see freddie mercury being a common choice.

so last yr my health went very seriously bad & i went "missing" for a few months.
around the same time were the freddie mercury auctions in london.

amongst the stuff were the gold albums.
amongst the gold albums were 3 sets - each having made gold in south africa.

i was one of the bidders on the one set - myself along with a local "tv broadcast company" - who wished (probably still do) to remain anonymous.
the idea was to "bring them back home". we would both retain 50% ownership, but they would have rights to display for public / marketing interest for a negotiated period.
thereafter, we would both relinquish our 50% interests & the items would be donated to a public entity (museum etc), for public access.

i landed up on a ventilator under induced coma - the person nominated to make decisions on my part under those circumstances was not sure what to do (auction bidding was never ever part of my instructions), my bidding had to be withdrawn as the "broadcast company" was not sure how or if to proceed in the circumstances.

if i can find the stuff from sotheby's, i'll post here .
this was the actual lot

oddly, i was never much into queen / freddie mercury.
i did and still do love the track "killer queen" off the Live Killers album (the only queen album i ever purchased.

going a step further, i actually disliked a lot of the major hits:
bohemian rhapsody - hate it
we are the champions - even more
.
.
i do really enjoy the video for "living on my own" - primarily because it gives a real insight into his extravagant personal life.
most are unaware, most of the video (the low res parts) are from his birthday party in berlin (i think).
he flew his friends over for the party.
the "hi res" portions in the video were later edits and added to the original footage to make up the video in its entirety.

take a look, you can easily differentiate between the actual party footage vs studio created

Freddy Mercury or Andrea Bocelli.

But my favourite songs are by Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong.. and my most favourite is this one (which featured in probably the 2nd best modern love story "Meet Joe Black". You can honestly not picture him singing the song, but he can sing, and wow. There are people who are good singers, and then people who can move you with songs. Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong and Israel Kamakawiwo'ole does just that.

This reminds me of the movie with Robin Williams, ie the Birdcage. If you havent watched it you should, its incredibly funny.

Haha I will throw in K/Pop into the equation

IU IU IU hahahahah

She had a tough childhood but boy has she got a singing voice, (especially during the song Good Day. She appears on Netflix playing Cindy on "The Producers", "Hotel De Luna"

the very first song i can recall hearing - aretha franklin - "i say a little prayer"
i was about 4
i recall walking into my parents bedroom, my mother was sitting at her dressing table doing the hair and make up.

The moment I wake up
Before I put on my makeup
I say a little prayer for you
While combing my hair, now,
And wondering what dress to wear, now,
I say a little prayer for you

over 4 decades later i still remember the moment, the dressing table, the make up, the hair curlers . . .

Almost forgot Lady Gaga. If you can look past the persona and listen to the album she recorded with Tony Bennett, as well as her performance during Joe Biden's inauguration, she has a very good voice.

Frank Sinatra and Judith Durham, both have the ability to move me with their performance. Elton John, Agnetha Faltskog, also both have the ability to do this.
