And will anybody ever get Casta Diva that right again?
That would be a no.
And will anybody ever get Casta Diva that right again?
Yeah easy, as far as Maria Callas is concerned.
She practically broke Ave Maria and O mio babbino caro
There's just little point in listening to any other renditions.

If you want range - 4 and a half octaves.
Hadn't heard this one before. Rebroff was a pretty astounding talent in so many respects and did so much to showcase what the bass voice can do. As far as range goes he was a bit of a freak too, although it's pertinent to note that his higher notes are all in falsetto and not in chest/head voice. True it's a very polished falsetto, and thanks to his artistry the transition between lower and falsetto ranges is barely noticeable. Reflecting on an earlier post, if I included my falsetto range then I too could claim 3 and a half octaves - but I rarely use it (except to parody the bee-gees ) so I stick with 2 and a half.
Interestingly most countertenors also tend to be either bass or baritone in their natural speaking voices.
Yes - mostly in the range up to F# above middle C, then down to the bottom D (occasionally). You're a bass, right?
Why do these Kennedy Center honours feel like a memorial service for that specific artist?
