Best mobile contract for traveling in Africa ?

Hi,
I need a new mobile contract soon and was wondering if anyone has good tips on best possible package(s) currently available in the market ? I will be traveling quite a bit international with main focus on Africa.
I would prefer a package with new iPhone 6 (64 or 128Gbps) but if too expensive would use my "old" iPhone 4S and buy sim and contract only.

I'd start looking at MTN. As they are in so many countries in Africa they could probably give you the best rates.

Best is to buy a sim card in the countries you will be travelling to. Local is cheaper. Roaming will kill you! MTN to have the roam at home or whatever they call it, which ties in with Chevron's comments but it's still two rand a meg.
