I might be looking to install DSL at my new apartment in Newlands, Pretoria. What are the best (all inclusive) deals available on a 10mb uncapped line? Will a 10mb line be sufficient for streaming?

Yes it will be sufficient. Best DSL will be Telkom UnlimitedHOME. 10mb all inclusive uncapped for R799. Month to month. Alternatively you can take it on a 24 month contract and receive a free router, installation and the LIT media box

Thanks guys. Yes I am particularly looking for a month-to-month option as I might only be staying in the complex for 12 months and also I would like the freedom to change to fibre if possible in the future.

At this stage fibre installation will be very high as as my unit is approximately 60 meters from the road. :( Most installation charges is around R2000 to R3000 which only "includes first 8 - 10m of trenching" after which I have to pay approximately R160/m. 40 x R160+ for installation is obviously not the viable option.... Might there be any solutions to my fibre installation issue?

Dig the trench yourself? Get some pals to help and you supply the beer and meat?

Haha, I would be happy to do so, just assumed the ±R160/meter is for the cabling and conduit more than the digging... :( Hopefully Openserve can give me an indication or break down of the R160.

For the conduit, use 20mm irrigation pvc pipe, from your local farmers corporation.

The fibre costs very little. We had an overhead installation done recently. About 50 metres of fibre, as it needed to go around the house to the furthest point from the pole. Telkom did not ask any extra for the long fibre cable.

I'm also considering the R799 option for home, but also don't want to be tied to a contract.

Any idea what Telkom charges for installation? There is a Telkom pole in my yard, about 15 metres from my house, if that makes any difference.

Thanks Dennis, I will give this a try. Lets hope for their proper feedback and assistance.

If you take the 2-year contact, installation and modem is " free" .

Note that Telkom fixed-line has never yet differentiated on tariffs between contact and month-to-month customers. If they do reduce the tariff during the 24-month period, the contact tariffs are also normally adjusted by the same amount.
