Best online shopping/payment gateway?

I'm helping my wife set up a website for a business she's setting up and was wondering what e-commerce/online shopping software was best to use as well as which payment gateway would be best for international credit/debit card payments.

I'm probably going to go with Texo for hosting and they offer CubeCart, OS Commerce and Zen Cart as e-commerce packages. Any recommendations?

The payments are probably going to be low volume to start off with so it would be a plus if anyone knows of a payment gateway that doesn't charge a monthly fee.

Any help is appreciated.

Dude, I'd recommend reading one of the gazillions threads about this specific topic already posted in this forum. It seems like a week doesn't go by without someone asking this exact same question...

I'm not sure about the monthly fees of the following but netcash, vcs or mygate should suit your needs. Our hosting also uses cPanel with fantastico which can install CubeCart, OS Commerce and Zen Cart.

OS Commerce is generally the most widely used shopping cart script, I recommend you stick with it, there is also a netcash and vcs module for the script which makes gateway integration a breeze. I'm not sure if these modules are available for free, the only companies I have seen are charging for the scripts.

Try MyGate, I think their rates are pretty good.

Stolen Cards: I presume the card holder, as they should be aware of the security of their card details etc. We got an email today from Netcash asking about our fraud prevention measures. I think you need to play your part and at least do some GeoIP looks ups and not allow free email addresses to signup/order.

If your merchant account is mastercard securecode/visa verified enabled then the liability of fraud goes from the merchant to the bank

PCI and merchant accounts?

What no one has mentioned is that there are two major obstacles in online shopping, PCI regulation which comes from Visa and MasterCard and the legislation included in the FICA act which requires extremely expensive merchant accounts be created.
If you are only accepting small amounts, and have access to an oversea's credit card account, go paypal.
Else make sure you go 100% legit and make sure the vendor is PCI compliant and also you will need to open a merchant account, else SARS will be able to take most of your earnings.

Hi

I always use Joomla + VirtueMart + VCS/2Checkout

I use a CMS so that the site can have other features besides the shop - FAQ, gallery, articles etc.

Acid, chastising the children like that won't teach them anything. :D

I thought I recognised the thread. I wonder if VB doesn't have a feature that automatically locks threads after a period of inactivity...

If they don't then someone should build it in... Or build a plugin that monitors the DB and locks all inactive threads.

I agree... makes me very skeptical if he is only posting here as a means to advertise his new business. Let's see what his next post will be in 213 weekdays!
