Best OR Tambo Valet Parking Service

Hey all, can anybody recommend (based on recent experience) a reliable and secure OR Tambo valet parking service?

I've seen some horror stories about cars left abandoned in parking lots by these "secure services".

And looking at every service's website I could find, they're all made by five year old kids with a poor grasp of English. Why is it so hard to just get a decent website? You're asking people to trust you with one of their largest assets.

I HAVE used these services twice before back when I didn't really care about my car being stolen ... but now I'd rather not run that risk. There's probably legal complications with car insurance if you knowingly hand over the keys to your car to somebody else who is then negligent with it.

Thanks for this :) Can you share some tips on 1) How to find this in P2; and 2) How one enters and leaves this place if you have to register (is there a guard with a clipboard or something?)

The card that you use to book you insert into the ticket slot. It opens the boom gate.

During booking you can specify a different card number if you want to use a virtual card for payment.

Easy to find on your right as you enter. Insert your card and the boom gate opens. Find a parking space that has a green light on top so you don't have to look for a parking bay. Park. Off you go. When you come back just exist with the same card.

There you go, now that's helpful thanks! I'll give that a try this time around :)

It's the best. If you don't want to do that depending where you are long term parking at Gautrain might be an option or uber to gautrain.

That last Gautrain hop from just before the airport to inside the building is insanely expensive.
I recall it doubling the price of the full trip if that last little section was included.

Five days. Is that R117 with the 50% discount factored in? Surely not.

Most valet parking costs around the R350 mark for 5 days, so if the long-term discounted parking comes in at R250, that'd be a win (admittedly you don't get the free carwash with the valet parking but I choose security over convenience).

I used Elite https://www.elitecarpark.co.za/ over Christmas and New Year for a 19 day trip.

Was an excellent experience, they send you clear instructions with directions, their staff are easily identified meet in the parkade hand over keys and do the reverse when coming back. I even booked a full car valet so my car was super clean, nice way to start the year. Total with the clean was R900

Not that I'm disagreeing with your experience, but this infamous news story from 2018 really opened my eyes to the difference between what you can think is happening and what's really happening with at least some valet car parking (and surely if you were a legit valet parking service you'd have some info on your website to assure clients that you weren't doing this?): https://www.news24.com/citypress/news/beware-dodgy-valet-parking-services-at-or-tambo-20181128

Elite actually has one of the 'better' websites from the valet car parking services, and even it discloses zero about where it actually parks your car (apart from saying it has '300 carports') ... and isn't it just a little dodgy that its one-page website was last updated in 2015 (dated by that book launch photograph)? Their Ts and Cs are also just a tiny bit worrying: shouldn't they be at least a TINY bit liable for the protection of your car?

  • Upon entering into this contract, the client consents and acknowledges that Elite and / or its member and / or employees, and / or representatives and / or agents, cannot be held liable and are indemnified and held harmless from any and all claims resulting from, arising out of, or in connection with:
    • Theft of or damage to the motor vehicle, such damage arising from a collision, scratches, dents, fire, and windscreen damage resulting in any and all forms of damage including but not limited to total destruction of the vehicle whilst in the care and possession of Elite; and / or
    • Mechanical faults arising whilst in the care and possession of Elite; and/ or
    • Loss of any articles left in the vehicle, including cellphones, cash, computers, computer tablets, other electronic devices and any other moveable possessions.

I dunno I just checked via the link someone else provided. 5 week days is over R700

I will let you park in my locked garage for 5 days for half that :p

Nice. Do you offer a free drop-off and pick-up service at OR Tambo too?

Seriously though I think you tested the quote link with dates that are closer than five days away. When I tested it for five days it gave me a quote of R325.

Lol yeah fair enough I tested now with dates more than a week away and they were considerably better. I would drop and pick you up :p at this point I'm kinda just trying to pick up any extra ad-hoc work to support a family member, but for R325 there at the airport it's a no brainer

I decided to take the recommendation here and went with Elite Parking Services ... it went seamlessly. They have a continual presence of staff in orange jackets. Car got its free wash, wasn't damaged, was ready on-time and documents were on-point. They're not the cheapest (R75/day for 6 days), but it was only marginally more expensive than OR Tambo's own long-term parking and it felt more convenient and secure.
