I want to get rid of all my contract phones and start buying phones cash.

Im looking for phones between R3-5000 off contract, and not network locked.

Also if it is ie a dual sim phone, the sim functionality shouldnt be affected like Vodacom disabling it in their firmware.

I am aware of Orange, Zeek etc, but Im not always too keen on shipping. So in other words I am talking about local accessible stores like Game, Makro etc.

Thanks

I've always bought my phones cash from Takealot. Never had a problem.

I only buy phones from China. Doogee make a good line of phones. For R3K you can get some damn fine specs. For R5K you can get some of the best.

On dual sim, make sure they are real dual sim, not sim2/sd card shares slot.

Orange used to have a local accessible store in Cape Town but somehow it closed down, probably lack of demand. Cellucity, Dioned Wired, Incredible Connection, Makro, Vodacom etc. Your usual common stores are most likely to be local accessible. Problem with these common stores like these is that they are very limited, very few variety choices of phone are available and usually they are more expensive to buy than online especially if you are buying cash. But I think its because of the lack of demand in SA, where as in other countries it's very accessible with a wide of variety of phones available.

Xiaomi is the best bet for that price. The redmi note 2 at its price is great.

You can't skip customs. In my case most get through sans duty. On occasion they get marked for duty. Courier will only deliver once you have paid duty. They will inform you if duty is due and, for a small fee, you pay them and they settle the duty. Otherwise you have to contact customs and arrange payment, then send p.o.p. to courier. Worth paying the courier to deal with customs. Your medical aid will thank you.

Thanks for these! I'm moving from Vodacom contract to prepaid and want to get a nice handset cash. Was looking at the Moto Z Play and the OnePlus3. Chinavision has the OP3 for $472 incl DHL shipping (+-R6650 - bargain!). Only question is, what kind of customs/taxes would I be looking at on such a purchase, more or less?

Most times you don't get charged duty. But do expect to pay VAT if they do charge you.
