Best quality MacBook Pro MagSafe 2 generic chargers

Hi all

Anyone have experience with generic MacBook Pro MagSafe 2 chargers?

Takealot carries two brands at the moment, Tangled and Raz - http://www.takealot.com/all/?qsearch=macbook+charger&_sb=1&_dt=all&_r=1.

I know there are other brands out there from different shops.

Really? It's just for being able to work elsewhere as a desktop replacement, and not have to move around my original.

Is this your first MBP? I use the power supply from my previous laptops - in fact I don't think I've even used the one that came with my latest MBP yet.

For me to buy a generic I would have to save much more than R300 thanks.

Call me crazy but when it comes to power I'd sooner spend the extra R400 on a genuine part than risk a R36k rand laptop.

i have never used a generic, but know a few people who have - all have at problems down the line.
seems the chargers and magsafe adapters are a little more complex than one would assume - interesting article:

Apple adapters fray at the magsafe connector. Same with their ear phones. Only Apple's kit does this. Even Acer is better. And that's not saying much.

I suspect it's more about the user being careless.

I know a guy with a MacBook he treated like ****. He kept it in a backpack, like a bag you'd buy from Mr Price, also in that bag would be the charger, his external hard drive and all the other cables he'd carried.

So I have respect for a machine that works after being put through that.

I suspect it's more about the user being careless.

You're obviously not a scientist with that type of logic. Same behaviour with other makes does not fray them, being extra careful with rMBP, frays the cable. Then again it's a flimsy piece of crud. Panasonic especially toughen up their cables at the joints, but even Acer does not have problems with fraying.

So tell me please, why did my rMBP 15 cable fray after about two years of careful use, when I've previously owned Acers and Toshibas which never had these issues and were manhandled for much, much longer?

Of course maybe it's because of programmed obsolescence. Either get a new MBP or buy a new, overpriced, cable with charger. And Apple rolls in cash.

The majority of fraying I've come across are at the brick end rather than the MagSafe end. The L shaped MagSafe did suffer from some problems which is probably why it never made it to the MagSafe 2.

Wrapping technique is also important.
