Hi,
I am wondering if anyone had any advice on a good shared bank account, day to day groceries, some monthly debit orders etc etc. One option is a simple low level Capitec or FNB savings account with low bank fees but wondering if theres a better option in terms of swiping a certain type of card, getting rewards, miles, ebucks etc or if thats all just a waste of time...?

eBucks is definitely not a waste of time unless you start chasing higher earning rates/bigger discounts by buying or utilising unnecessary products and incur costs and fees. But as something that you earn on the side as you go about your business it is excellent.

That would depend on your needs - I find that people pick very different banks as "best" depending on their requirements.

For low fee most seem to swear by Capitec. FNB working out OK for mid range too...they seem to be increasing prices and cutting benefits lately though.

It depends on your spending as well. I make back more eBucks than the cost of my account every month, so for me FNB is the cheapest.

That said I would still bank with them even if they dropped eBucks because of their service and products.

Thanks for the info - i doubt the real cheap accounts allow one to earn ebucks or equivalent though...

Rewards programs do work out for you if you swipe/spend enough. Unfortunately FNB doesn't offer "Fee Saver" anymore so it depends how much you're going to spend each month really - if you make use of Checkers/Shoprite particularly you'll come out on top with FNB but again depends how much you spend and what rewards level you are on, and that also depends on how many products of theirs you have etc.

Capitec is really good - great interest rates, no frills or customer-lock in deals. If you don't need credit I'd go Capitec.
