Good day everyone,

I started my own small business a while ago and I haven't been tracking the accounting as detailed as I would like.

What type of accounting software would you recommend?

So far I am considering Pastel or Xero? I think a complete accounting package is needed with a trial balance etc so I will be able to produce financial statements if ever need be.

The transaction volume is around 100 transactions a month incase this information is needed.

Your suggestions will be great appreciated.

We use Xero and love it. Their terminology is not straight up accounting speak so was easy to get into. Our accountant on the other hand had to do get use to it but that didnt take long either.

We use Sage One and it is great. Allows you to create recurring invoices and no need to do updates for the software from your side as it is all handled by Sage.

if you bank with FNB, you can also use their software, its for free if you a business banker with them and i understand it is suited to SME's R0-R5M companies... plus you can contact them for any advise on it for free also, and if you want, they have a list of accountants trained on it that can help you also...

If you need audited financials then go with Sage. If not then it doesn't matter all that much what you do since nobody will be looking at it anyway (you aside).

We used WaveApps which is totally free for a few years then switched to SageOne, still miss the simplicity of WaveApps.

+1 for Xero. Although it's getting a bit pricey due to the exchange rate.

I use Wave Apps. It works great. Pity I didnt link my business account :(. And now I'm in need of all those transactions, which wave would have registred automatically.
It's free by the way.

Hi there, I noticed you had a dilemma earlier in the year about which software package to use for your business. Did you manage to get a more suitable one? If so or not, please contact me on sean@softwareafrica or 0832008068 and I can offer you a quote on a software that will make the running of your business much easier + I will also provide you with a 30 days trial
