Hi Guys,

I've recently ordered my ADSL line, just waiting for Telkom to come install it (hopefully within the next year);) . Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thought was the best Spyware remover.

I used to have Spyware Doctor, but it gave me problems, conflicting with programs, so now I've got Ewido Anti-Spyware, the latest AVG release. It seems to work pretty well, but you can never be sure.

I just wanted to know wat you guys thought, before I get my ADSL installed and get pumbled by spyware and malware :D

I'm using Ewido, AVG and ZoneAlarm firewall. No hassles so far. Just be sure to scan every couple of days. Might be worth getting Registry Mechanic as well.

Thanx, I'll try them out and check how well they work. :)

Oh ya on top of my Ewido, I've also got Nvidia's built in firewall which came with my motherboard. Do you think it'll be good enough or I should get a better one?

So far I'm satisfied with it.

Nvidia make a firewall? Hmmm....if it worked, you wouldn't get any spyware.

I like sygate firewall.

For spyware removal, I use adaware, with spybot search and destroy and of course, sygate firewall. Once the firewall is up, you shouldn't have any problems.

Good Old Ad-Aware. Still the best. Get it here: http://www.download.com/Ad-Aware-SE-Personal-Edition/3000-8022_4-10045910.html?part=dl-ad-aware&subj=dl&tag=top5

Ewido, Windows Defender and Ad-Aware. Use at least two or more programs simultaneously. There is no single anti-spyware application that protects against all spyware.

A firewall will not protect you against spyware. It may prevent them from phoning home directly, but will not stop them hijacking your browser, spying on your machine and sending the information out from the browser.

Don't worry you've got months, if not years, to investigate before you get your internet connection.

Don't use Nvidia Firewall at all :) Not even for a temporary solution, it's filled with bugs and flaws etc. Windows Firewall would work better, but I'd recommend you use ZoneAlarm, it's free aswell. Just search google around a bit for Nvidia Network Access Manager, you'll see that it's a piece of rubbish ;)

This is a bit off topic, but isn't it irony that BrianB would be talking to person, whom is actually also BrianB? I'm not saying BrianB is person, I'm saying person in real life is also a BrianB ?

I used Hijackthis recently.:)
Simple but good program.
Helped me find a dll file that was attaching itself to the Winlogon file under windows/system32 on boot up.
I used the "delete a file on boot up" option under Misc Tools and it wiped the dll file on reboot, otherwise it just keeps reappearing via a registry entry.

Warning!
I would only advise advanced users to use this program.
If you are unsure do not click the "fix" button.

Just use FireFox as your web browser. I haven't had any spyware since. I don't even bother installing "anti" spyware anymore.
