Hi everyone,

I am looking to buy a first tv for my flat, to watch some movies and tv series, not for gaming. The room in question is small: 3.5m x 3.5m and we will be sitting 3m from a wall-mounted screen. I am planning to buy a television on Black Friday and hoping to spend around R8k on a 55# UHD.

Given the TV and usage specs, I am hoping to be guided by members on budget and options for an audio set-up.
Also, is a separate audio system necessary?

Thanks!

That's like asking if a big TV is necessary. It depends on how much orsm you want.

I would say it's necessary ofc. Just adds that much more depth to your viewing experience...

Very necessary imo. Even if you don't want to break the bank and want a fuss fee experience. Get a decent sound bar and you'll be more than happy. TV speakers will never compare. Can't really recommend anything just saying you should get one :)

Thanks poffle and Mike,

What sort of budget should I look at and what are good options within that budget?

An 8k UHD screen is available right now though. Hisense at HiFi. No HDR though

Thanks for the comments.

As far as 55# Tvs go, Hisense appears to be in the the R9k price range (N3000) and Samsung/LG appears to be in the R11k price range. So Hisense appears to be better value for money but I have read about local firmware software updating issues with Hisense. Not sure if that impression is correct?

As far as budget soundbars go, I have found the following:

http://www.loot.co.za/product/samsung-hw-k450-wireless-soundbar-subwoofer-2-1-chan/cntc-4211-g400

https://www.takealot.com/razer-leviathan-5-1-channel-surround-sound-bar-eu/PLID36964085

Does anyone have experience / thoughts on these or others in the entry-level price range?
