Going a bit off topic:
I took some photo's of some guy (think he was a minister) speaking to a small group of people at the bus station by the Grande Parade and he had like 4 or 5 of his guys come and chase me away :wtf: Thought something was dodgy and wanted even more so to get some pics :D Went to a police officer and said this guy is in a public place and he won't let me take pictures when i have a legal right to. Mr officer said something along the lines of that the person has a right to not having their photo taken because even though they are in a public place they are a private individual :wtf::confused::wtf::mad:
There's no expectation of privacy in a public place - you are restricted in what you can do with the photo afterwards though.

Try to tell that to a police offer who is always right (because they are wearing a [-]blue overall[/-] uniform :D) who doesn't know the law....

Could you elaborate on that?
In general terms you can't profit of a person's image unless you have a signed release unless it's sold for editorial use (ie to a newspaper or news site.

Aah of course. Sorry, I was thinking you're limited in what you can do to the photo, rather than with :)

Something like that. I'm more worried about where pictures of me end up after they've been through photoshop... :p

Dont think they even know about photoshop and what its capable of :D:D

Can't really say without knowing what you have, but lens is always a safe bet. I saw a set some weeks back shot with a 20D (2004 vintage) and 17-55mm f/2.8 IS USM, and it was gorgeous.

Personal Equipment:
Nikon D80
Nikon 18-135mm kit lens
SB-600 flash

Borrowed work equipment:
Nikon D200
Nikon 80-200mm f/2.8

I use both camera's and lenses for work purposes.
Normally in the pairing of D200 + 18-135mm & D80 + 80-200mm

Lens. Definitely a lens. Figure out which part of the range you like shooting and get a nice lens for it. The Nikon 17-55mm f/2.8 is excellent, and so is the 70-200mm f/2.8 - if they're in your budget :)

I've been looking at:
Nikon Zoom Super Wide Angle AF-S Zoom Nikkor 17-35mm f/2.8D ED-IF Autofocus Lens
Nikon AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Autofocus Lens

Not really looking at the 17-55mm 2.8 due to the fact that it is a DX lens and want to hopefully get a d700 or d700 replacement one day...

I am of course the heretic, but as far as I'm concerned "want to hopefully get [full frame]" is no reason not to buy good DX glass. Unless you have an order for that D700 in or you you have the cash waiting for the D800, buy what works best now. The 17-55mm sells for near new prices (sometimes more, since kit is getting more expensive right now) so essentially you're paying a week or two rent to own it for however long. Buy what works best for you.

Heretic?
Thing is that the lenses I mentioned will both work 100% on these DX camera's but not vice versa for the DX lenses...

General wisdom on internet camera forums is that, if there is even the remotest possibility that you might possibly at some undetermined date get a full frame camera, you should only buy FX lenses. My view is the polar opposite. Unless your move to full frame is imminent, don't think about it.

That's why I mentioned resale value. I'm not saying get the 17-55. I'm only saying don't discount it because it's DX. It's a superb lens and if it fits your needs better than any of the other *right now* then that will be the best use of your money. Choose your range, then choose the lens accordingly.

24mm is not very wide on a crop body. I have the Canon 24-105mm f/4 which is a fantastic lens, but it leaves me wanting on the wide end and I ended up having to get a 10-20mm lens to satisfy my needs.

So how bout the 17-35mm then? Should be wide enough on my crop body and extra wide on a full-frame body?
I see your point about reselling the 17-55mm but that is a hassle ad would rather get a lens I can use on both systems without worry of compatibility problems...

I've heard a lot of ravings about Nikon's new 28-300, might be worth looking into after you get a new body. :)
