Beware-Honda Generators Out of Spec

The Honda SA website lists specifications for their generators that are wrong. The EM 10000 model is described as 87Kg in weight and is actually 162Kg and the AC rated output of 5kVa is actually 9.0kVa. Specs for other models are also wrong. Think twice before you buy a Honda generator as there is no way to get past the nonexistent quality controls in this office.

Maybe be weight is wrong, but really....thats minimal. Just email them and ask them to double check.

When your listed spec is off by 55% in either direction, it's incompetence that makes you question the entire site. And an extra 75Kg is not minimal if designing support strengths or paying freight.

Well I apologise. I just figured that anyone who feels the need to post this kind of petty issue on a public forum like this probably not reading properly in the first place - and perhaps they got confused themselves...

So you're saying that the rated output is 9kVa, and then what's the max output?

Also, how/where are you getting your info?

I wish to warn people that are considering purchasing a Honda genset that the listed specs are incorrect. Posting directly does this far better and faster.

As to your assumption about why they listed a 5kVa rated power instead of the correct data which is 80% greater, your comment speaks for itself.

Ok correct me if I'm wrong here:

When I go and buy a car/bike or generator. It's not something you buy online and wait for delivery. So I assume the sales man would tell you the correct specs when shopping right?

rated = the recommended rating for this generator which it can be loaded reliably with

max = to make allowances for "spikes" such as when a fridge or freezer compressor starts up...

the person who load it to the max with 9kVa will be asking for trouble....

You seem to fail to grasp the fact that it is recommended to only load the genny to 5kva for best performance/reliability..
BUT that it can spike up to 9kva if it needs to without going into meltdown instantly.

Yes, it is something you buy online and wait for delivery. Six to eight week importing wait for these after ordering and when you talk to the Honda reps, they all read the specs off their website. However, when you finally get the unit in, the official manual tells a different story.

You could have bought it from any Genpower without having to wait 6 - 8 weeks and not have any issues now.
