Beware this DStv Premium upgrade scam in South Africa

MultiChoice has warned customers that it has seen an increase in the number scams targeting DStv subscribers.

"There’s been a surge in the number of scams targeting our DStv customers in recent weeks," the company said in a blog post.
Thank you, I am well informed about naspers DSTV's methods and lures when they try to pull a quick one on you. I've been DSTV free for years, in fact I'll probably never get DSTV or Showmax until they stop keeping content like HBO hostage and perpetuate region gating.

These include a gift card scam where customers receive an email informing them they have won a cash gift card or a large sum of prize money. The email then asks the customer to provide their personal details to claim the prize, which results in their DStv account becoming compromised.

You're gonna have to explain this one. I am calling BS on all of this as a result. So, an SMS tells you what a great winner you are and somehow a DSTV account gets "compromised"? What does that even mean?

Looks like another DsBB / MyTv mashup to drum up publicity over nothing.

DStv are currently advertising, on TV, their premium package for R749, total. When you want to subscribe they say that as you have forked out extra for an Explora decoder you have to pay an additional R80 per month - I am not making this up. When I queried this on their app, they did not even bother to reply.

Presumably compromised once the dumbass hands over their personal account details...

Still doesn't make sense - what does compromised mean? That they now pay for DSTv but cannot watch? That their package is changed? What does compromised mean in this context?
