So shitty of tshwane is forcing us to take a prepaid smart meter. The new ones support export to grid which is nice.
Not sure if they will be paying for our exports but it requires the plant to be registered with them.

Does anyone know what the process is? And, will they be buying from us?

If not then they can GTFO. I'm not impressed being forced to go on prepaid though.

You would need to apply with the city of tshwana first and get approved, their credit reverse tariff is 12c a unit. Not sure thou how they would work out if they just have the excess credited to the meter itself or some other way.

What area are you in and why are you being forced to change?

I heard via the whatsapp groups, tshwane teams are trawling Doringkloof (Centurion) area forcing prepaids in (today). The process is they go and try as a walk in(meter in hand), and if you can't do it, you have to make an appointment with them when you are ready for them to proceed. Use work from home as an excuse or whatever to get an appointment rather than getting snowballed.

I have a 6Kw system, and dreading the day they upgrade my old large spinny because i know it will trip, but if the new meters can handle grid feedback i'll be happy to go with it as long as it does not trip. Rules are rules. The problem is likely that they will install whatever, then i have to register my system to enable the feature, so it will probably trip until that "several month process" is completed?

and this is the reason I just got another battery would rather store 5kw and use it then give that 5kw away at less than a rand a day.

If I got 1kw per 1kw that would be different

that is exactly what i was thinking as an alternative, an extra 5kw battery would basically get me through the night. Just Geysers left, house full of people with a variety of showering habits, and winter is apon us. I make enough power to create and store another 200L of hot water during the day, but then that is more hot water storage needed.. ugh. can't win this.

12c is laughable. That puts my export at 60c a day. R18,00 a month is a joke.
I'll keep my damn excess and let my geyser enjoy all the sunlight it can. If I switch off the 05:00 to 06:00 schedule in the morning I'll only use electricity in the most extreme circumstances.

I comfortably get through the night and have about 60% SOC by 8:00 in the morning before my panels carry the house with ease.

I'm in Doringkloof and also heard that these ****ers are walking around switching the meters.

Quick off the cuff calc, i think moar batteries might be worth it, as long as you can fully charge it every day for free.

Yep, it’s a complete joke to even think 12c would be even acceptable, like a buck would of been okay but then again just another gimmic for the municipality to make more money and fill their Benz with petrol.

Looks like these tools are going round installing the meters and then ringing your doorbell to give you your manual and control unit.

Installing Conlog BEC42 which will trip unless you have your inverter set to trickle.
