How about we fix the basic broken, dysfunctional stuff like electricity and water first before spending scarce resources on 1st world standards for nice to have things like advanced waste management systems??

Waste management in the cities is already becoming expensive (unless you're in a township in which cases most don't pay a cent). If the price of waste disposal goes up people will dispose of their waste some other way such as dumping it illegally.

First of all this will take years of meetings / planning before it will see the light of day.
Secondly any tax they introduce will NOT be used for it's collected purpose and end up in someone ANC pocket.

Take a drive through Montague Gardens / Westlake informal settlement in CT - looks exactly the same. (as do most places in SA)

Yeah let's gazette rules that a large part of the population will ignore. How do they propose enforcing regulations in all the unplanned settlements?

Yeah, whatever..

Why the fsck must we go through all the effort to "recycle" and all that?
I've seen it multiple times wif mine own eyes how the recycling collection that is done in my area is just dumped in exactly the same place as all the normal rubbish. Its not even seperated, the bags are just dumped as is.
