Big court victory for SABC over jobs bloodbath

The Labour Court of South Africa has dismissed the application by the Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union (BEMAWU) to declare the SABC's retrenchment process as invalid.

The SABC plans to retrench up to 400 employees - a figure which it said must be cut in order for the company to improve its dire financial situation.

And while we're on this topic, what about other bloated SoE's, like SAA, Eskom etc?

On a side note - why does this union exist? Broadcasting, Electronic, Media and Allied Workers Union.. Like who is their members? Everyone that works at the SABC and DSTv only? Who else? Does ster kinekor workers count? What about people working for netflix locally?

FFS - The SABC is a lost cause.
They air absolute shidt and tell themselves its world class.
They cant run their business on advertising revenue, and need to be bailed out by BS taxation.
Have more bosses than employees.
Pay fekkin well considering .......

Because of these factors the SABC is bankrupt, there is no blood left in that stone...... but the unions want Wakanda magic?

start from the top, and work your way down,
they wont will they?

small fry at the bottom suffer for their bosses mistakes.
Even if you start at the top it will barely make a difference. Remember that the average salary at the SABC is near a million and that doesn't include benefits. So there's a lot to be cut at the bottom. While I think CEO's salaries in general are too high they rarely make up the major costs.

Also blame the unions for the situation as well. They stood by while the corruption and mismanagement was going on.
