In our suburb, any Toyota is fair game, from Etios to Corolla to Hilux to Fortuner.

The "salesmen" at traffic lights tried to indicate "something wrong" with my Polo the other day. They point to the very front of the car, like I wouldn't notice if my radiator was broken/leaking?

Maybe your VW badge was missing.

I would still not hop out and investigate at a traffic light! But it's still there, absolutely nothing wrong with the vehicle besides being a target for criminals.

They do this often, I suspect for you to open your window and engage in a conversation - in case you need a cheap charger to destroy your phone, or a bubble making machine

But I have seen the guys selling license disk holders pointing at the badge and then at his branded holders

Data from these incidents show that the most-targeted body styles for hijackers in 2022 were the sedan and hatchback, followed by bakkies, panel vans, SUVs, station wagons, micro/minibuses, trucks under 3,500kg, motorcycles, and buses.
Thanks for listing all vehicles on public roads..

Is a Tuk-Tuk a motorcycle?

I'd love to know how you hijack a motorbike. I know it does happen, but it's incredibly unlikely.
If I had to do it, I would pull-up with a buddy, both of us kitted out, pull out a gun, force the guy off, jump on and drive off

Hijacking is traumatic but the constant fear that it might happen is also unsettling. Having to drive with closed windows on a beautiful day, trying to be aware all the time of what's going on around you is stressful.

Last week instead of taking the highway from Fairland to Fourways Crossing I took the back roads to avoid William Nicol between the highway and Monte Casino. That section is heaving with vendors, windscreen washers and beggars plus traffic is always at a standstill.

Then that intersection where you cross William Nicol from Fourways Mall to Fourways Crossing the guys smack your window if you ignore them, put their faces up against the glass insistently and you're trapped, gridlocked and scared.

Instead of being excited about getting a new phone I had a horrible day:crying: criminals are sucking the enjoyment of life out of me

Between them and the taxis there's no pleasure in driving anymore.

The way things are going these days they're going to be hijacking cars just to nick the petrol out of the tank.

A few weeks back my mom almost got hijacked in Cape Town. She drives a 13yr old Honda Jazz.

A double cab bakkie stopped infront of her at the traffic lights. This was on a Saturday evening around 7pm on her way home from a church service. It was dark and she seen 1 passenger exit the bakkie and walk away. Then someone else opened her driver's side door and pointed a gun at her. She then rammed into the bakkie and the gunman hit her over the nose with the handle of the gun. The other guy tried opening the passenger door but it was locked.

Someone shouted the car is damaged and the guys left. Luckily no serious injuries except for a deep flesh wound under my moms eye. And only a dented number plate. The bakkie was only about a metre away from her.

Now she doesn't drive after dark.

I wouldn't have guessed a 13yr old Honda Jazz was on someone's list to be hijacked.
