Record high petrol prices in South Africa — How much more you will pay from tomorrow

South Africans will be paying more for all fuel types in July following a surge in international oil prices over the last few weeks.

On Tuesday, the Central Energy Fund (CEF) announced the new official prices for petrol, diesel, and illuminating paraffin, which will come into effect on Wednesday, 7 July 2021.

The inland price of 95-octane unleaded petrol will increase by 26 cents per litre, climbing to a new record of R17.39 per litre. Its previous highest price was R17.32 in April.

Similarly, the inland price of 93-octane unleaded petrol will increase by 29 cents per litre to R17.20, surpassing its previous high of R17.10.

If 26c per liter is a big increase, how much would qualify as massive (TM)...
We need a sliding scale from mybb to determine that. Maybe 27c.

I think they are milking the term for fuel price increase. Maybe they should calculate the average increase each month and from that determine if it is average increase or big increase.

Went for a walk to Pick n Pay an hr ago and the queues are backed up at the Engen
Crazy
Most vehicles either have a 40l or a 60l tank, so by filling up today all you're gonna save is R10.40 - R15.60.
****ing Idiots !!!

Maybe we should get a few more electric cars into the country. At least the cost of electricity doesn’t change every other month.

A medium sized petrol car uses 8l/100km. So we’re looking at 8*R17.39 = R139.12/100km

A medium sized electric car uses 20kWh/100km. I pay Eskom about R2.00/kWh so the same 100km would only cost me 20*R2.00 = R40/100km

R139 vs R40. I know which one I would choose if I actually had a choice.

Fun fact: Each litre of petrol has about 9.3kWh worth of energy so the same petrol car as above is effectively using 8*9.3kWh = 74.4 kWh/100km! Or to put is differently 1kWh worth of petrol only costs R1.79 but you need way more per 100 km than in an electric car. Just goes to show how wasteful petrol or diesel engines are…

I stopped trying to beat the petrol prices changes and fill up whenever. Honestly, a person seldom scores unless a tank can last more than a month.

Just fill up at Engen, keep a financed car with FNB and an e-bucks level of 5, then you get nearly half-priced petrol.

I pay Eskom R0.00 but CoCT R3.31

R66 in petrol for my Ballade is around 50km, still, half-price so if electric cars could compete against petrol versions, it would be worth it.

Govt: "with all the people working from home during Level 4 lockdown, if only there was a way we could get more fuel money with less people putting fuel in...."

Can't wait for all the bread prices to rise citing petrol costs as the reason, even though they haven't dropped when fuel was cheaper.

Shook my South African Money Tree growing outside. No hassles. Dropped a few ZARs for this. Because, the government believes that's where money comes from.

Kids are home, wife works from home 4 days a week, and I can walk to work. At least until school starts next week, or the week after, we're still saving quite a bit. Kak thing about not driving a lot any more is that the little car's battery seems to be running down as we're not using it a lot at the moment. So they can stick their increase, greedy mf's.
