Big screen 4K TV roundup - December 2023

Erk - the 65" A95L is $3,500.00 ...

this is really not a good article Jan. I'd definitely not call "Skyworth" well known. Skyworth and all the Chinese **** in the article are all crap. Maybe not TCL, they are pretty decent.
You would be surprised to know that some of these brands are all manufactured by the same South African factory.

Cheapest 4K big-screen TVs in South Africa — including several options under R10,000

Higher-resolution TVs have increased in popularity in South Africa, and, as a result, the prices of 4K TVs have fallen considerably, including for models 65 inches and larger.

When LG launched its first 4K TV in 2012, it had an 84-inch panel and cost $20,000 (R164,230). However, South Africans can now grab a big-screen 4K TV from a well-known brand for as little as R8,999.

in terms of the first 4k TV's the first i ever saw was the Samsung 84" that was R485000 in South Africa at the time - i went to Gateway to see the launch - and then they had it displayed at the Gateway Cinema level for a month - so each time i went to the movies in that month i saw that screen in action before i went into the movie - the LG 4k launched after that was a total cheapie because LG were concentrating more on 3D at that time

the LG was nowhere near the first - it was launched maybe more than 6 months after the big Samsung - i had a 51" Samsung Plasma at that time

My ancient 40" LCD Sony Bravia started doing weird **** the other day, it starts doing its own thing changing channels, going into demo mode all by itself. Picture still great though. I'm very sad.
If you just use it as a monitor, does it still give you problems? My PS3 is plugged into my Bravia and a media stick for netflix, crunchy roll and prime.

Skyworth is actually a well known brand worldwide, although you'll find it marketed under different names in different countries.
They even do manufacturing for a "Made in Germany" brand.
Although the Skyworth name only recently came to SA, we've been able to purchase their sets for quite a while now under the Sinotec brand.

I'm using it the same as before just with the DSTV, except the media player is not connected anymore. There was like a ghost in the machine before turning up the volume to max and changing to demo mode. Looks like a month in the naughty corner excorcised the demon.

For a while Ford and Mazda were assembled at same factory in SA, yet the Ford's were the only ones leaking oil.

We had this issue on my old Hisense. The board on the side of the TV with the buttons on was flaky. I opened the TB up and disconnected it since we use the remote all of the time.

Worked 100% after that

I thought about that, without opening the thing up, I bought some IPA and contact cleaner spray and drowned the buttons. It didn't make a difference so gave up and left it off in the naughty corner and used a smaller screen that we had until this thread revived my sony bravia passion and gave the ol' gal a second chance and now all is back to normal again.
