Goodbye TV Licence — Big-screen monitor and media box price comparison

While there are plans for the South African Broadcasting Corporation's (SABC) TV licence to be replaced with a household tax, this could still take up to five years to complete.

Those wishing to avoid paying TV licence fees over the coming years have several big-screen monitors and streaming devices from which to choose.

This is not on!
If you can access the internet, you can access SABC. This applies to every citizen of any country globally. Except maybe China.
Pay your TV license, it's the right thing to do.

correct, if you able to access the SABC website, you are liable for a TV License...all international travelers, will have to show an paid up SABC TV license before they can enter the country.....

Well I bought a TV 2nd hand. No TV License, and still a warranty. A family emigrating from SA.

And you can litterally pick up a 4th Generation Apple TV for R1k or there about. Or the ematic one that can play via flashdrives too.

Its a no brainer really.

Wrong. All international people all over the world can access the SABC website. So they all must be liable to pay South African TV License
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

That Samsung M7 monitor is crap. I wouldnt get it. Its refresh rates are terrible. I mean seriously you can just plug in a TV into a normal monitor anyway, and get far better quality. Heck

Dell Mini, Lenovo Mini and HP Prodesk Mini or Elitedesk Mini are all basically laptops that been converted to desktops, use about 65w of power which is less than their 230w desktops (saves you on power). Is pretty quite and works well, and you can install any app on it.

How do you plug in a TV into a normal monitor?

Locally, mobile data is still too expensive to take streaming into becoming the defacto standard. Intentionally, I think.

It is not crap - it is 60Hz and fine for office, movies or DeX.

Also saw some people mentioning it isn't bright enough. Not true either - it's pretty bright. Not as bright as my Dell 27" UltraSharp though.

Why would i want to overpay for a monitor instead of getting a tv? Did sabc cancel fb marketplace or im missing something?

Retailers are missing an opportunity here, they must just sell a TV without a tuner and need for a license.
Which then becomes a monitor and the ad valorem tax comes into effect

To me this is totally stupid. No one wants to pay licensing for a broadcaster they don't even watch. We are all on Netflix showman prime etc. Who in their right mind wants to pay for SABC if they'll never watch it.
Yes we all have the right to infomation, free on the internet not paid on SABC.
If the SABC can't stay open it's not feasible and should close down.
Now they want every household to pay more of their money to a dead end service.
