Big VAT increase to fund SRD grants on the cards

I do not support the R350 grant scheme at all.
People will use it for alcohol, drugs and cigarettes.

People would rather be hungry and smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol.

There are people that would use it for food but rather open Food houses or something rather than giving away money.

No. "Food houses" = more tender corruption. Just give them R350 and let them remain poor and drunk/high.

I don't understand this honestly
So they want to increase the VAT, but pay out the same grant amount

So now you receive the same grant, but you need to pay more VAT so at the end of the day you get less?

No man **** off ANC.
We don't all earn R1million gravy train Government salaries.
Our basic weekly grocery shop this week was the highest one ever and it was the bare essentials.
Everything seems to go up by R5 each week,
Now this kak ┌∩┐(◣_◢)┌∩┐

The idea is that most of VAT expenditure comes from businesses and the middle class, wheras VAT free items are "lifeline" items.
That idea though is fundementally incorrect because people on grants do indeed purchase things that are not "VAT free". And the production of those items is not "VAT free" either.

The reality is that they have run out of other people's money. Had they just kept the expenditure within what was collected via tax since 2004, there would be R340bn extra in the budget.

Mister, that was your first mistake..... to try and understand these idiots.
Unfortunately the poor oke they are buying will believe it and that is all that counts

The truth is that this grant might appear to be helping the poor but in actual fact its counter productive , because its fooling the poor into thinking they are getting helped by the people that are actually the reason for their suffering.
It’s so much worse than that. The grants are unaffordable, so they need to be funded through increased taxes, debt and/or money printing. This damages the economy and causes inflation, which in turn leads to a cycle of a growing grant recipient base and decreasing provider base. It adds fuel to all the raging economic fires.

Maize meal is VAT exempt, water is free. What more does a commie want?

The problem the government faces is that increasing VAT will get them additional funds temporarily to support the grant payout, but within a tax cycle or two the VAT receipts will decline somewhat but the grant payment will have to be increased... self-reinforcing cycle unfortunately.

If they have to increase taxes (of any kind) to fund the grant, then the grant is being counter productive and is a detriment to the economy as a whole.

The middle class still has plenty of fat to trim. All must live in shacks and eat maize meal. This is the will of the people, SA is a socialist state.

The anc using our money to buy votes to keep them in power and there's nothing we can do about it..................

Should be the following:-
Cut down on the fat cvnts in government, parliament
Stop all protection units for the anc cvnts
Get a truly independent company to start investigating corruption and to expedite prosecution and recovering the stolen trillions.

While they at it, they might as well just start using the pension fund. It is just lying in the bank accounts and do nothing anyway

But its typical, they see the cliff they are driving at, what do they do.... switch on sport mode
