How do you decide what was a big tech story, rpm? Is it based on replies to the threads, impact it had, something subjective or something else altogether?

I think iBurst has been in the news a lot. Not just with Jannie Van Zyl taking over, also their new packages, and the "tower saga." Then again, I've only been around for the last quarter...:whistling:

Hi Kaufies

Pretty subjective - asked around the office and checked what dominated news and discussions. But please add what you think was big :)

I think facebook was a big story along with twitter. If I am not mistaken both are in the dictionary or will be in the dictionary soon.

IMHO, I think Afrihost should of had a headline just for itself. Not to be lumped in with the guys who followed. I think the other companies even ridiculed their effort, such as SAINET who publically teased their use of "marketing budget" on this forum, but who is having the last laugh now!

Interconnect battle

In what many saw as the strongest unified effort yet to drive down telecoms prices, the Department of Communications, Parliament, ICASA, industry players, consumers and the media all played a role in ensuring the peak mobile termination rates were reduced from R1.25 per minute to 89c per minute.

Some observers however argue that this was merely a backlash to Telkom’s sale of Vodacom, which was unsuccessfully opposed by ICASA and Cosatu, in which a few Mbeki loyalists made millions.

Do I know of any other top 2009 Stories? Yes. John Holdsworth, ECN.

To not have mentioned him at all, especially in the interconnect bit may have been an oversight, but we would not be sitting with 89c/minute today had he not started the ball rolling (in an incredibly brilliant move by side-stepping MTN bullying tactics and getting Patricia de Lille on the case); and again by disclosing costs of 2c as being the actual interconnect cost (not sure if he did this prior to the MyBB conference too though.) The media were reporting that interconnects would come down in 2010, but days after the MyBB conference where John showed a 2c cost, then suddenly we get the 89c rate.

Lolies looks like the story of biggest story is not very popular..
not even a casual "trawler" around.. lets correct that....

One thing this story has helped me with is this, in my ignorance I have not realised the connection and unexplained ott support of iBurst on MyBB.

Now its all clear...

amen.
