I'd almost forgotten about this. After the whole Epstein case - the idea of a island resort where wealthy businessmen can mingle with hand-picked models and give them cash 'gifts' - makes me worry what else is out there.

You know between 1990s and mid 2000s these 'stories' were common.. even our local tabloids You/Huisgenoot ran articles on it.

So did they manage to find proof that the money came from her father and not Saad Harari? Can't remember what the full story was.
They found it suspicious and implied that it was his money.

But this is all about the huge contested tax bill that was levied by SARS.

Along with the multimillion-dollar donation, Van der Merwe was given an Audi R8 and a Range Rover Evoque – together, worth R2.7 million – as presents, she claims. This after she let slip on the island that these were her favourite cars.

In correspondence between the SA Reserve Bank and Standard Bank, the relationship between the donor and Van der Merwe is described as a “boyfriend/girlfriend situation”.

Since 2013, the SA Revenue Service (Sars) has suspected that the gift was money belonging to her father, businessman Gary van der Merwe, and subjected the two to a tax investigation.

But documents in possession of City Press’ sister newspaper, Rapport, show that Sars and Van der Merwe have buried the hatchet, after she paid R44 million in income tax in 2016.

Although donations by foreigners are not taxable, the settlement that Van der Merwe reached with Sars has now seen the money being classified as “other income”.

In Van der Merwe’s claim against the minister, she alleges that Sars knew all along that the money was actually a donation, but failed to disclose this fact in litigation related to this matter.

This omission by Sars has caused her immeasurable damage, she claims.

Van der Merwe said in previous court papers that she used R98.6 million of that money to buy three properties in Cape Town. A further R25 million was loaned to Luera Movables, a company her father is involved in.

Her father was also the agent who facilitated the receipt of the donation at Standard Bank.

Van der Merwe said she used her father as an agent for her financial affairs because she did not have any grounding in business and because he was an experienced businessman.

These factors caused Sars, who were involved in a dispute with her father, to become suspicious about the transaction.

She was stupid and should never have moved that money to SA.

I think her dad, who has always been fighting with SARS, saw this as an opportunity to get some of his mitts on this money as well and take advantage of her.

She should have left that money overseas and just lived off of it...

Pah - 1990's? Giving gifts in exchange of "friendship"

I raise you 1386-1353 BCE

A request for forty concubines by Amenhotep III (c. 1386-1353 BCE) to a man named Milkilu, Prince of Gezer states:

"Behold, I have sent you Hanya, the commissioner of the archers, with merchandise in order to have beautiful concubines, i.e. weavers. Silver, gold, garments, all sort of precious stones, chairs of ebony, as well as all good things, worth 160 deben. In total: forty concubines - the price of every concubine is forty of silver. Therefore, send very beautiful concubines without blemish." - (Lewis, 146)[36]

Lucky you...my first language was LISP!
well the first one that I actually coded with some proficiency was Pascal then C, C++, Cobol, Java, SQL (does it even count?), Assembly, LISP, VB6 (the horror!), VB.Net (the slightly improved horror!)

dabbled with HTML/JS/CSS/Python along the way as well, but yeah it all started in primary school with Logo and a bit of GW Basic

and all the programming languages I've worked with put together is still a lower number than how many penii Candice van der Merwe has undoubtedly taken in a single night

my first coding exposure was "Logo" extra class back in primary school and typing entire programs from library books in GW Basic

guessing that puts me in a different generation entirely :sneaky:

Had basic & machine code/assembly, also had fortran which I never touched as I didn't have books on it and it looked boring.

So is there still an ongoing case against Sars going? There are too many flip flops in this saga for me to remember.

definitely, I'm just not sure if triple-anal-penetration by circus donkeys while deep throating an elephant is too vulgar for MyBB ... highly doubt it is too vulgar for this bikini model hooker

Be careful. Just now calling someone a hooker is verboten
