I am probably missing a really newbie thing but i just got my biliion 5102 with 4port switch. I want to set up an ftp so i can transfer stuff to myself while im away but I cant get it right.

My ftpd is set to listen to port 555, when i connect internally (using lan ip of server - 192.168.1.100) it connects fine. But when i try using my wan ip I get a Connection Refused error.

Under NAT -> many to one -> edit virtual server i hav added: 2. Start port no: 555; End port No: 555; IP address: 192.168.1.100

What am i missing?

edit: (nm: seems like u cant access ftp using wan ip from the inside [but why?])

So you want to FTP yourself? You little pervert :p Seriously though....

I'm a bit confused, but I'm guessing you want to set up your box as a ftp server right? If so, the NAT part seems correct, but perhaps rather use port 21. So the port forwarding is fixed, now what? You'll probably need dyndns to get a "static" IP, so that you can connect to it from anywhere, whatever your IP address might be. Obviously you'll need FTPServer software and your firewall must be set to server to allow incoming connections. Just make sure that the security options in the Server settings are tight (i.e. password, rights etc.) I'm not an expert, but that's all I have :(

lol! :p

I setup the ftp and everything is working fine, dns, ftpd.. everything. I was just confused because even tho i can connect to the server locally using the lan ip, when i use the wan ip it refuses the connection. But it seems to work fine externally and i guess thats all that matters. Thanks for reply :)

Do you have a software firewall (or the dreaded XP firewall) running on your machine?

Either of these will block any incoming FTP traffic even if you've configured the router to do the port forwarding.

Im using zone alarm.. but everything is setup fine. I can connect to ftp using lan ip and can connect from outside using wap ip. Its just that I cant connect using wap ip while in sitting on the pc the ftpd is running on. Its not a problem, everything is running fine.. just wondering whats the reason i cant use wap ip to connect
