Heya,

Just built my new pc, and I am trying to flash my bios to the latest version.
So I make a boot disk and copy the award flash utility and the *.bin file to the disk, ..perfect, ..boot into a:\ and start the flashing program, it prepares the new bios file, and then asks for a name to back up the old one, I give it a name, ..BUT the bloody stiffy is full, so then it just quits!
Can't seem to skip the backup step..

Any help?

Hmmm...check the command line options for the bios flash program. Must be a way to skip backup. Also, once booted with the stiffy check if you can access the C:\ in which case simply specify a name there eg. "C:\flash_backup.bin".

I've already tried to swap another disk in when it wants to back up, and it uses it, but the moment I eject it the program stops..

How about reading the previous posts in a thread before replying?

Hey thanks guys, ..werner, thanks would've tried that, but only saw your post this morning..

What worked in the end (late last night): Downloaded 'Flashboot', and used a USB, and booted as a USB-ZIP, ..WOW I've never seen a bios flash go so quickly! ..was pretty cool, ..not a hitch! :)

Well, just finished my new pc:
Aspire X-QPack (black) (420W) (120mm Antec TriCool - Blue LED, low speed)
AMD Athlon64 Venice 3200+ E6 (going to try get to 2600MHz)
Corsair Value Select 2x 512mb (blue Vantec heatsinks)
Foxconn Winfast 6150K8MA-8KRS Mobo (Red)
WD 250GB Sata-2, 8mb HDD (red Sata cable)
Asus 7900gt (Zalman vf-900Cu)
Proline 19" LCD, 8ms, DVI, Slim Bezel (actually an AOC LM928)
Gigabyte Slimline KBD + MSE
Creative 350 2.1 spkrs
Mitsumi FDD + 7-in-1 Card reader combo (black)
Lite-On Super Allwrite DVD-RW (black)
Vantec Red rounded FDD + IDE cables
Vantec PSU and 120mm fan Dampeners (put washers btwn hdd + DVD-RW)
Antec Silver Thermal paste
Lapped stock heatsink, took off stock fan (actually like 70mm/75mm and attached 80mm Antec TriCool - Green LED, med speed)
Going to put Red TriCool in the PSU..then I'm done :)

How did the lapping work out for you? And the new fan? What's the temps? :)

Great actually! Well, I did get quite a sore wrist!! ;) :)
28 deg.'s idle baby!!!! (or at least that's what the bios tells me) :) (in summer I'm sure it will be a few deg.'s more, but a success in my eyes :) )
The fans are awesome, ..the 120mm is virtually inaudable at the low setting, likewise the 80mm at medium.
The WD HDD is really quiet!, thought it might not be working at first!
Can't wait to get a better fan inside the PSU, it's a smaller atx that comes with the case, so I'm sure it can do with the improved heat dissapation.

Oh ya, 7900gt at 30 deg.'s idle..

And the other components?

Reason I am asking is my PC is noisy, wanna try and quieten in down a little bit

You should maybe think of getting yourself a completely new PSU. I don't really trust the ones you get with the box. (depends which box of course)

Other than that it looks good. :)

First off I live in CT.
Case + GPU + HDD: 3 months old 2nd hand from a guy in Durban.
Fans + Acc.: Global Computer Wholesalers
CPU + LCD + Mobo: Pinnacle Micro
Rest: Rectron

Ye, it's my goal to have a quiet as possible system! :)

Ye Toxin, true, however in one review I read, they actually tested it, and it performed surprisingly well! On newegg, some people who got the earlier 20-pin models complained about it failing after varying amounts of time, from a few months to a year or so, but apparently this revised 24-pin version has been improved. So I'll have to wait and see! :)
Thing is, it has the right length (short) cables and number of connectors etc. for the small case. Regular PSU's can fit, but, there are the opposite drawbacks.

I would post a pic, but the forums don't have the function.

Update:
OC'd x10 to 2400MHz, Prime stable, idle temp is 30 deg.'s and load is 40.
Ram (166 in bios), is exactly 200MHz, ..apparently if ur lucky u can get 222MHz with Corsair Value Select, but I'm happy with 200.
:)
